No "Output Preview" in Cool 3D ver 3.0

Post by moakes »

I got Cool 3D about 9 months ago with a Video Studio purchase, but am just now getting around to use it. I am aware that there is a new version out, but am just experimenting to see if I can use this tool. ONE QUESTION, the "Output Preview F8" does not work, no preview box pops up. I get the hour glass for a second or two then nothing, it's back to normal. No errors, nothing. I used the Microsoft checking tool and it confirms that I do have DirectX 9.0c installed. I have to export to a video and then play in media player. Any ideas why Output Preview doesn't work? THANKS!

Hi Moakes, and welcome to the forums..:)

The Output Preview name is somewhat misleading. It does not render your project so you can view it. What it does is give you a view of image quality. So while you are working on a project and you insert a graphic and it looks rather poor, then you can click on the Output Preview and it will render the image so you can see what it should look like.

While working on projects in Cool 3D, just pressing the Play button will render your project and then play it. Each time you modify it, it will then use Smart Render, and then you can view it...

So Output Preview is just a quick quality check...

Thanks, that is EXACTLY what I needed. Not sure how I missed the play button. Guess I should read the help or watch a tutorial. One more questions if you would be so kind: Is there any way to (open or import) a bitmap graphic (jpg, gif, etc) and put it in the background, or does everything have to be vector? I'm want to use a bitmap background in the background, and then do some animations over top? Thanks a million.

Moakes,
In my tutorial, I explain how to add a background in COOL3D PS. Also touches on some of its other neat features.
