Photo Express 4.0 Unable to open program

Post by Mikeulead »

I have had PE 4.0 on my computer for 2 years working OK. Yesterday I noticed when I clicked on the startup ICON on my desktop it failed to open.

I went to the Program Files ULEAD folder and clicked on the execuatable from there and it would still not open.

I removed the program from control panel add/remove. Than I reloaded the program from the install CD. Still not able to start the program.

Read through this forumn for similar problems. One answer maybe to remove the K-Lite Codex pack. Where is it or how is that done?

Any other Ideas of what may have happened

Mike

Photo Express 4.0 Unable to open program

Post by Mikeulead »

In reading about CODEXs on the web it indicated that they were used in conjunction with photo /movie viewers. While I was still unable to locate the one mentioned in my first post I recalled that I had downloaded a viewer earlier in the month.

I had reloaded PE 4.0 and while it is present on my system I was still not able to open the program.

I went into Control Program and removed the movie viewer I loaded earlier to view DIVX files. Without reloading PE 4.0, the program imediately began to run when I clicked on the ICON.

My problem is resolved

I had DWS MF5 and PE freeze on start-up. Re-installed to no avail. About the reformat when I found 'DirectX stopped' when checking the System Configuration Utility. Searched for directx and found a suspicious looking file named 'dirextx.exe'. Renamed the extension and rebooted - all ok  .

I think it's one of those scam virus / worms that companies infect you with and then offer to fix at a price.
Wonder why my malwal proggie Ad-Aware SE Personal did not find it ( ok my update was 484 days old ) .

"directx.exe - Here is the scoop on Blaxe / Logpole Worms as it pertains to computer network security. The big question: what is directx.exe and is it spyware, a trojan and if so, how do I get rid of Blaxe / Logpole Worms?"

DirectX.exe does not belong to any Ulead products. I suspect that you've got virus infected in your system to cause the issue.

Hope it's not the case but it looks like a virus.

A fix for the same problem! PhotoExpress 4.0 SE

Post by VidManLarry »

Hi. I can't quite remember where I found this fix... after a massive Google search, I think I finally found the fix somewhere on this message board.

That being said, I apologize if this is a duplicate posting... so back to the fix!

Either a microsoft patch, or DivX, or both affect the "VIO" folder.
If you browse through Program Files/Ulead Systems/Ulead Photo Express 4.0 SE, you should find the VIO folder.

Inside the folder is a file called uvavi.vio.
Create a new folder and drag the item into the folder.
This way, if the fix doesn't work for you, you can just drag the file back to where it used to be.

Launch PhotoExpress 4.0! It's worked for me for 3 different PC's!

Good Luck!

This was identical to what I encountered today. After reading this, I realized that I recently downloaded and installed the Cole2kMedia Codec Pak. I had already uninstalled and reinstalled PE 4.0 with no joy.

Using the Add/Remove Program of Windows in the Control Panel, I was able to uninstall the codec pak. Now PE 4.0 is back to working fine. It is obvious that PE 4.0 does not play well with these codec paks.

I use PE 4 also and it would not open after I installed DivX codec. After uninstalling the codec PE 4 opened again

Hi,

I think PhotoExpress 4 might not be DivX compatible and you might need to upgrade to PhotoExpress 6 to fix it.

Photo Express 4 - unable to start

Post by patthepiper »

I have had to reinstall PE4 and my scanner software. I now cannot get PE4 to start. I have tried Remove and Reinstall but still have the problem.

Regretfully I hadn't registered the software, and in trying to do so the Serial Number I had recorded was not accepted, so I cannot get technical help.

I'm running XPPRO SP2
