ADS DVD XPRESS DX2
This capture device is very good, but users of the DX2 should be aware that using the 'smart render' feature in Video Studio 10 with captured MPEG2 footage from the DX2 will cause an out of sync and unstable end result. Disable (uncheck) the 'smart render' function when rendering and your file will be fine.

Smart Render does not cause A/V sync problems. However, IF your video file is corrupt, turning off Smart Render can sometimes repair a damaged or corrupt GOP (Group of Pictures) by forcing the complete reincoding of the entire video file, which takes a lot longer and slightly reduces picture quality.
If you are having chronic problems with video that has been captured with the DX2, it might pre preferable to try to locate the corrupt area - possibly in the first GOP - and removing it in the editor.

how did you get the DX2 to work with vs10? I can only get it to work with vs9. vs10, the application crashes when I hit the "Capture Video" button.
If the DX2 will not work with vs10 is there any way to "disable" it so I cannot have the crashing? Be nice to use the capture even without the DX2, etc. That is just sloppy programming..

As far as I recall, the version of VS9 that comes with the DX2 has been tweaked by Adstech to work with their device. Video Studio as a rule does not work to capture from Adstech devices. Usually, with other Ads devices, you use their own software, CapWiz, to capture from the device, then open it in Video Studio to edit -- though I think with the DX2, the VS9 which comes with it will also capture.
The simple fact of the matter is, though, that VS10 has not been tweaked by them to capture, so it will not work for this purpose. But this is not Ulead's fault. So, if CapWiz came with the DX2, either use that or the special VS9. Then simply open those files for editing in VS10. (I think that's what Terry/TDK was talking about -- not actually capturing from the DX2 using VS10.)
And don't worry that you are using more than one program. Many of us here use two or three or even more in any one project as some may do certain things better than others.

Are you trying to be funny? It ain't working. I don't know what a pimp DVD camera is but if you had put that money toward a decent digital video cam with AV through function you wouldn't have any problem at all.Madax wrote:haha yeah no doubt.
I am just using VS9 to get the analog I need then VS10 to create the DVDs. I only have 2 more 8mm tapes then hopefully I can run all digital from here on out.
I got a pimp DVD Cam so bye bye 8 mm analog! FINALLY!
The problems you are having are not due to the software but a straight result of using "pimp" stuff I guess.
By the way, I wish you luck with editing the stuff you are getting from your DVD cam, you are going to need it no doubt.
Just as an FYI; just about every ADS DX2 issue I've seen in this Forum is as a result of user error. The DX2 comes with it's own very good capture software called Cap Wiz. Cap Wiz allows DVD MPEG2 capture using either LPCM or MPEG audio. If you capture using Cap Wz and then import those files into any recent version of Video Studio, you'll be fine.
Video Studio 9SE comes bundled with the DX2 and there are Drivers provided that will allow you to capture directly to VS9 SE if you prefer. The smart thing to do is not install VS9 SE at all and invest in VS10.
I've transferred analog and digital footage through the DX2, allowing the device to do its MPEG2 encoding, and I've been perfectly happy with the end result. True, DV should capture via firewire, but the resulting sound and vision capturing DV footage through the DX2 is perfectly acceptable.

I have several ADS Tech mpeg encoding devices, and agree with what has already been stated -- the bundled software that comes with the device has been "tweaked" to allow capture (i.e. like a Ulead application), but subsequent releases of the bundled software does not mean it will be updated to enable capture from the device (this is just the nature of the business).
And it's also been mentioned that ADS Tech offers their own capture software (CapWiz) -- I agree with the others to capture using CapWiz, and then use the captured mpeg files in your software of choice. CapWiz is the cleanest interface to the capture device, and ADS Tech does update CapWiz (as needed) -- it's a good idea to check their support pages for updates every now and then...

No the DVD cam does not have any issues at all with vs10. Just pop out the mini dvd and get the video from that via vs10 on import.heinz-oz wrote:Are you trying to be funny? It ain't working. It's the analog capture with the DX2 and vs10. I was refering to my old Panasonic 8mm (that's what I use that feature for). So yes the problem is with the software not being compatible with the DX2 driver. If that's the case, the developers should of put some more of error catch block instead of crashing the entire sofrware app (esp if one of the hardware vendors you "partner" with is going to drop the ball, as it seems asdtech did). As is stands now if you have the DX2 drivers installed/enabled you cannot use the capture video feature at ALL (even if you had a capture device that was supported, a pci tv tuner card for example). That should be fixed.
It's not really that big a deal, just more annoying if anything. Soon as all my 8mm's are dumped to mpeg, hopefully I will be done with this mess anyway.
I just kinda freaked out when you purchase some software, install it and it crashes outta the gate, etc.
Far as trying to insult me, well lol..

Cap Wiz works perfectly for me. For the information of some here the DX2 gives much better results than using pass through on my digital cam.
One great reason for using Cap Wiz and then bringing in the subsequent file to VS is that it has a special audio synching lock so you never get out of sync audio on mpeg capture.

That's a system issue suggesting that your system isn't powerful enough to handle the capture at the DVD MPEG2 setting. Your system specs aren't posted though, so I can't give you specifics.supres wrote:Everything I capture with capwiz is very jerky and pixilated, im assuming its because it captures at variable 8000 (i dont know about you but i cant seem to change it on capwiz). If i use vs9 i can change the bitrate to cbr 4000 and it comes out perfectly smooth.
