Hello,
I am using DVD MovieFactory 3. I tried to install the update files (dmf3_patch_dl_e.exe), but I got an error that "Setup cannot find Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 installed on your system". The only option is to click OK, at which point the update closes. I tried running the EXE in the folder where the program is installed, and I get the same error. Does any one have an idea of how to actually install this?
That's issue #1.
Issue #2 is that when I start MovieFactory, select Create Video Disc, New Project, and click the add media (capture from camera), I get this error message (sometimes):
"No capture drive is available in the system"
What the? The wierd thing is that this only happens around 50% of the time. Most of the time, it starts up fine. And yes, my connections are correct, and yes, the unit has power, etc.
Is there a fix for this specific error?
Thank you.

Which version of MF3? If it is not the full version or you activated the TBYB version with the activation key rather than doing a fresh install with the bought version, chances are that this happens. Patches don't work with TBYB and some SE or other bundled versions. An activated TBYB may still give you this error even though you paid for the program.
I would uninstall MF3 and do a fresh install of the full version.
issue #2 can be caused by faulty cables also. If you start up your camera for capture and XP does not notify you of new hardware being connected, that means XP has not seen your camera and hence has no driver loaded.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I am using MovieFactory 3 SE. It came with a ADS dvdXpress unit I got. I registered the software, but that's not the same a "activated", right?
This is the only version I have ever installed and I have yet to upgrade or patch it.
I guess I don't technically NEED to patch it - I was just hoping that the patch might help me resolve my second issue. I will experiment with the cables as you suggested and see if I get anywhere.
Again, thanks for your feedback!

It depends on which of the 3 update packs available you want to install. The first one is only for DiskCreator versions and the last one only for users of the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR capture card.
The other patch "DVD MovieFactory 3.0 Update Pack (Build ID: 300P01, Release Date: 2004/06/03)" should work with your version. I would only patch MF3 if any of the problems fixed with the patch apply to your set up.
It certainly would not fix the problem you describe in issue #2.

MovieFactory 3 - Can't update & Capture Driver error
Heinz,
Thanks for replying to my earlier posts. I still having issues.
The error ("No capture driver is available in the system") is still coming up no matter what is plugged into the unit. I know that Windows recognizes the ADSTech DVDXpress device in the USB port (I hear the connect sound & it shows "your device is ready" message). However, I never see the green light ("capture") come on.
I have plugged three different devices into the unit with several different cables - same error. I uninstalled & reinstalled the drivers - same error.
I even installed that "3.0 Update Pack" you mentioned, which made things even worse (which I didn't know was possible). Every time I started the program, two different versions would pop up simultaneously & fight for control on my screen. I know you warned me, but I thought I would try it as a last resort.
I am left with the possibilty that there is something defective with the unit itself that does not recognize that something is plugged into it. Unfortunately, I think I am past my warranty period - I will look into that tonight.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/comment that you (or anyone else) might have.
Thank you again.

Solution
BTW, I did eventually find the solution to my own problem here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ure+driver
The post that says "Click on the Advanced Settings button on the capture screen. In the drop down click on 'Change Capture Plug-in' and make sure you have the proper plug-in selected for your device" was correct. In my case (dvdExpress) I selected "ADS Instant DVD USB2 capture plug-in" & everthing worked great.
I just wanted to post this in case it helped someone in the future.
