Displaying captured video as it it captured

Post by tashipete »

Anyone,

VS 10 Trial Version does not display video while capturing it. The capture seems to work fine. I'm trying to capture from analog input on my ATI 9800 All in One. The machine is winxp, sp2 at 3 GHz with an Intel processor.

I'm capturing a low definition file to either avi or mpg. Neither displays while recording. NTSC format. There are no error codes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

I'm no expert on ATI video cards and their drivers, but check its control panel to make sure that the Hardware Video Overlay is on the primary display and not going to a dual-head device or Video Out port -- the latter would normally be used when connecting a TV to a PC for viewing DVDs or TV recordings.

Next, check the Videostudio Preferences to make sure the Preview target is the Preview window and not a dual-head or DV device.

Thanks, but that did not fix it.

Does the ATI capture window display it?

If the ATI capture driver creates its own preview window, then that would explain why Videostudio doesn't show anything -- the hardware video overlay would already have been claimed by the ATI driver.

The ATI AIW cards have their own capture software (which is very good) and if the ATI capture window has been opened and minimized then Video Studio would be unable to see the line input video.

Thanks!

All,

Thanks for the replies. What solved it was to rebuild the machine from scratch putting the latest drivers in first, working from the processor out. It now works, but previews with the top and bottom of the image blacked out. It captures ok though. As I troubleshoot it, any thoughts?

Thanks,
Pete
