I was checking the audio levels of a video I was making that had several
songs in it by watching the levels in the audio mixing pane. One of the songs had a particularly high level (in the red), so I used an Amplify audio filter to reduce the level. After applying the amplify filter to reduce the level, I noticed that the level remained (and sounded) the same when I play it through the audio mixing panel. If I closed the audio mixing panel and play that part, I can hear that the level was reduced by the Amplify filter.
So the problem is that I can't use the audio mixing panel
to "see" how the audio level is reduced when I apply an amplify filter.
And in order to even "hear" how it is reduced, I have play from the
preview window and not through the audio mixing panel, as the amplify
filter doesn't seem to be doing it's thing when played through the mixing panel. By the way, I'm running MSP8 with SP1.
Pretty frustrating as all I can use the audio mixing panel for is to
see the initial audio levels, but can't see the changes after reducing
the audio levels with an amplify filter. Is this a bug, or am I missing
something here?
Problem with Audio Mixing Panel

Yes, anwered right away too and much appreciated. For anyone reading this post and wanted to know the answer, here's what was written:
"For some strange reason the default state of the Audio Mixing Panel is to show levels without the audio filters applied.
To check levels with your Amplify filter active, click on the last icon on
the Audio mixer toolbar and then click on "Apply Audio Filter While Playing".
