Dual-layer DVD-RW?

Post by gordonwd »

Is there such as thing as a dual-layer DVD-RW product (that will play in a commercial DVD player)? I don't think I've ever seen this particular media type.

I know that regular DVD-RWs have saved me from making a ton of coasters in my VS work to date, but I've not tried a dual-layer project just yet.

Thanks, but it confirms what I suspected: when they do come out with these disks it will require new DVD-burners to support them. :( Looks like I'll just have to hope that what I burn will work without a lot of experimentation. I'll probably put as much as possible in the project to keep it so it fits on a single-sided DVD-RW to test how the menus and other stuff works, and then when it looks right I'll add the other videos that'll spill over to the 2nd layer.

That's not how I read that article. However, your drive will likely need a firmware upgrade to support this media, and that takes a commitment from the manufacturer to develop updates for products that they earn no additional revenue from.

On dual layer disk/recording

Hi gordonwd,

Yes, it sounds amazing but that's what is obtainable now. I have a Liteon CD/DVD writer that does this well: although, the CD to use is also special type (it writes on both faces)

Cheers.
