DVD Moviefactory 5

Post by fda »

 Consider yourself lucky, at least you can get it to load and work.
I bought my legal copy on line from Ulead on March 17, 2006. I installed the program and nothing works. When I select a different menu template, I get a error message saying "Failed to change menu template". If I continue on and try to write a DVD folder with the original template I get a error message that says "Failed to create VOB folders" error code "515:0:0", if I try to write a disc image I get a error message "Failed to create Disc Image" error code "514:0:0".
I have spent more than $90.00 on the phone to Ulead Teck support and no answers, they keep saying they'll get back to me. I've sent the teck dept numerous emails and they don't even bother replying to them.
I talked to customer support and they were outright rude and hung up on me.
I have bought 9 different pieces of Ulead software in the last year and they refuse to offer any help with this problem.
My last purchase 3 months ago was PhotoImpact 11 and that piece of software will not even load, it freezes half way through the process. Again I've tried to get help from their teck department, nothing.
I've had to un-install both pieces of Software and re-installed the earlier versions, both of which (MovieFactory 4 and PhotoImpact 10) work and load flawlessly.
I have never seen a software company treat a very good customer this way, 3 months I've had the product and no help from them.

Welcome to our forum, pity you didn't come here earlier!

You mention problems with more than one piece of software. This leads me to believe that the problem might be Windows or Hard Drive based.

Try the following in this order:

1. The Windows Error Log:
To check the windows Event Log:-
START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code apertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

2. The Hard drive(s) for Errors|:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 2127#62127

3. Our Re-Installation Procedures
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773

If none of these work please update this thread so that we may persue other avenues.

Everything on the computer is up to date. The latest ATI drivers, Lastest Bios, Every update for SP2, Lastest version of Direct x. I've formated the hard drive and done 4 clean installs. Nothing works, still tells me it can't create VOB folders. If I save the project and try to reload it I get error message saying TypeFace Not Found and program locks up. I go to the windows font folder and the font is loaded.
I've in-installed every Ulead program, used regedit to remove every reference to Ulead products, rebooted and re-installed. Same result.
Talked with teck on the phone from Microsoft for 3 hours, they helped me check everything in XP and there are no problems with Windows.
I've never downloaded or used any trial software, I just purchased the programs from Ulead because of my previous excellent experience with their products. I last talked to the teck dept on Monday, they still couldn't help me, said they would get back to me in 24 hous. Didn't happened!

All 3 of the Seagate 300 gig hard drives are brand new, there are no errors on them. I replaced them when I ran into this problem thinking it might be a HD issue. It's not.

Try checking

1. The RAM - do a google search for a RAM tester - theres plenty of free ones.

2. Check the Motherboard Ribbon cables. Make sure that everything is connected properly, sometimes they look connected but a good push with your thumbs does the trick.

The ribbon cables are fine and all new. The 4 Gig of Ram is also working fine, no problems.

I've re-installed MovieFactory 3 and 4 and they both work fine. I've tried Roxio Media Creator 8 and it works fine. I tried DVDit, no problems. I then erased the hard drive and re-installed Moviefactory 5 and I'm back to the same old error message can't "Failed to create VOB Folder".
I'm getting really upset over this.

Perhaps we are looking at the wrong thing.
It might be that you are not creating the DVD correctly.

Take a look at the following two tutorials:

1. MF4: Create DVD from Hauppauge TV Card

2. Authoring a DVD

Although the second tutorial is written for VideoStudio 9/10 the procedure is the same for MovieFactory 4/5. This tutorial is still under construction but enough work has been done for it to be looked at. There are still a few tweaks to be made regarding the background sound and I have yet to write the final step.

I been doing this professionally since 1998. I've authored more than 2000 dvds without a problem using DVD workshop and DVD moviefactory 4. I think I know how to create a DVD with menus. It's not something I'm doing wrong. When I build the DVD, it plays perfect in the preview. Right now I'm using Ulead's pre loaded templates and just adding 2 mpegs and when I go to write the disc to a folder, disc image or burn it I get this message. Yet I can use my other PC with Moviefactory 4 and the same 2 mpeg files work fine.

After spending 3 hours on the phone with a Microsoft Teck, located in Nova Scotia, Canada, I got Moviefactory 5 to work.
He told me to start over once again, erase my hard drive and re-install windows XP, then after doing the SP2 updates start by installing MovieFactory 5 and see if it worked. I did that and it worked. He then said to install one program at a time checking MovieFactory 5 between each install to see if it would still create the VOB folders.
I next installed DVD Workshop 2 and it also worked fine.
Then I installed Ulead PhotoImpact 11 and tried to run the program (PhotImapct) and as usual it would load half way and freeze up. I then tried MovieFactory 5 and it would not create VOB Folders, it just gave me the same error and closed.
I removed PhotoImpact 11 and tried Moviefactory 5 again and this time it worked fine.
I next installed PhotoImpact 10. PhotoImpct 10 ran fine and loaded. I then tried MovieFactory 5 again and it didn't work again, same old error messages.
I removed PhotoImapct 10 and MovieFactory 5 ran again and I made a DVD to make sure.

Being curious I ran some other experiments. I removed MovieFactory 5 from my system and loaded MovieFactory 4. The program ran fine, I then installed PhotoImpact 10 and MovieFactory 4 still ran fine. Next I removed PhotoImpact 10 and Installed PhotoImpact 11. When I tried to run PhotoImpact 11, it froze again half way throught the load session. Tried Movie factory 4 and it still ran ok.
I then re-formated my hard drive and yet again installed windows and then installed MovieFactory 5 again without installing any PhotImpact.

DVD MovieFactory runs fine if you use the included templates That came with the program. When I installed some of my DVD Menus that I created in PhotoImpact 10 and used extensively in Moviefactory 4, the error message was back saying "Can't Create VOB Folders". I removed the menus and then MovieFactory 5 ran again without errors.

This leads me to believe that MovieFactory 5 is totaly incompatible with PhotoImpact 10 & 11 and if PhotoImpact is loaded on my system, Moviefactory 5 won't work.
So I'm left with 2 Ulead Programs that are totally useless to me. I purchased them so I could build menus for my DVD production.

Oh, yeah. Ulead tecks still haven't gotten back to me, even after numerous calls to them and promises from them that they would get this problem strightened out.

It all seems rather wierd that you are getting these results even after a clean installation of Windows.

I have all those programs and they are quite happy with each other.
It sounds on face value it could be a problem with the Windows PATH statement so that certain dll files and the like are being found perhaps in a wrong location.

I had a similar conflict problem a few years ago on my old motherboard.
What I did to overcome it was.

1. Install a Ulead program.
2. Move all of the dll files from
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG
into the products installation folder. eg.
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0
3. Install the next piece of Ulead software.
4. Go back to Step 2.

I'm not saying this will work for you but it cured the problem I had at that time. I don't have to do this now with my current motherboard.

Hey Steve, What motherboard are you using? I'll buy it, I really want to get PhotoImapct and MovieFactory 5 to work together.
Thanks
