Steve,

When Mels posted this question it got me to thinking, where does VS store this information, ie the folders created in the Library manager?

So I started looking for the Folders using Windows Explorer. So far I think that this must be info stored in a .dat file correct? If you create a new folder then add the thumbnails, the new folder(s) are not seen in Windows Explorer. Since we know that VS just links to files, they are still in the previous versions Sample Folder.

The reason for my examination of this, is if one un-installs the earlier version then the Samples folder will not be there, and thus the other video, audio and images will be lost, correct?

Now what I also found that if you use Windows Explorer to Create a New Folder in the Samples Folder of a VS version, then VS does not see it, in its Library Manager. You would still need to use VS to create a folder and import the respective thumbnails.

So what I have done is to copy the respective folders to either just another location on my HDD, or to the current version of VS. Then launch the current version, and go through the importation. Using the Library Manager, I create the New Folders, naming them the same as the ones I copied. Then importing those thumbnails. That way if I choose to uninstall lets say VS8, I don't loose all those libraries.. Seem feasible?

Ron
I think I must have missed off from the lengthy procedure what I do with these. I create a folder and then sub-folders for items such as
backgrounds, sound effects and everything else not dependant upon a specific location and then move everything there.

I am then able to easily find these items to use with whichever application I need to use them with.

A lot of these tasks could be made simpler if Ulead adopted a shared folder method so that all of their menus, transition effects and everything else were contained in one place. I have previously forwarded this to Ulead for inclusion into their suggestion box.

Hi

The library files are .dat files called VS_Image, VS_Video, VS Title etc

Can be found here:-

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0 and 10 and presumably 8.

I have just successfully copied the VS_Image.dat file from VS 9 to 10
Seems to work.

Hope this Helps

Load from Stream Error when copying VS_Video from VS9

Post by geoffschultz »

I upgraded from VS9 to VS10 and found this topic when trying to figure out how to migrate my video libraries. I renamed the current VS_Video.dat to VS_Video.bak and copied the VS_Video.dat file from the version 9.0 directory to the version 10.0 directory. However when I start VS10 now I get a "Load from Stream Error". I restored the .bak file and all is well, but I don't have my VS9 libraries. What's wrong with this?

Hi Geoff

Sorry for the delay in answering, sometimes you have to go on holiday.

This is what I did, it seems to work for me.

From C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor Andrew\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0

I renamed VS_Video.dat to VS_Video10.dat Just to create a copy.

I then copied and pasted VS_Video.dat from VS 9 to VS 10 folder overwriting the VS 10 file.

My VS 10 video library was exactly the same as VS 9. I do not get any errors.

I copied the files whilst VS was closed, then restarted VS.

and due for box to arrive anytime. So if I want to save stuff from 9, I can just copy those folders to a storage location for safekeeping on my computer and then remove VS9? And not lose anything that I might want to import later?

Hi Tommy

Copying the library files to another location then pasting them into VS 10 should work.

Remember to make a copy of the VS 10 files, should you wish to return to the original library.

Although ulead recommend removing previous versions, there are many on this forum that have several versions of video studio installed showing no problems.
I have both 9 and 10 at the moment.

Folders for archiving

Post by tommytucker »

Good to know. I have read the comparisions of items in folders...so I will just use the VS10+ library items. I can get along with fewer album transitions. I assume I can just re download Burger and install that in 10+.

That's correct, anytime you have to re-install VS you have to re-install Burger"s transistions to get VS to see it.
