Audio and Video is off
I am using Ulead to capture my old VCR tapes on my computer to put to DVD. I have hours and hours of tapes. One problem I have found that sometimes the audio is off from the video. It happens all too frequently after I have captured and want to edit the video later in Vegas Video or Adobe Premiere. Any suggestions on how to correct this problem? I hope its just a quick fix.

Hi Dmutombo, and welcome to the forums..
In order to help you we need more information. Please read the following : Thank you for having your system details completed in your profile..
Just guessing at this point, that you have captured to a highly compressed format. While some can have success in editing such a format, most do not, and the OOS (lip sync) problem is one that rises up.

I am using VideoStudio 7.0 DVD SE for my capturing tapes onto my computer. The package came with DVD XPress at USB 2.0 to connect.
The package came with DVD XPress at USB 2.0 for a connection.
Source: ADS Instant DVD USB2
Output format: DVD
Under Options MPEG Setting:
Configuration: (I just use the default selections)
Audio Freq: 48.0 kHz
System: DVD
Bitrate: 4 Mbps
Resolution: D1 (720)
Video Source: Composite
Video Output: Composite
Aud Format: Mpg1L2
Format: NTSC
I am wondering if there is other information you need. I think I have most of my config here. Hope this helps.

MPEG2 audio is not part of the NTSC DVD specification, but many standalone DVD players will support it. However, to play it safe, you would have to use LPCM (since your version doesn't support AC-3 Dolby Digital, which would be the other valid audio format).
Regardless, try playing the file created by the DVD Xpress to see if the problem exists prior to creating the DVD itself. If the video and audio are already out of sync immediately after the capture, then the capture device screwed up (this assumes the audio source is connected to the DVD Xpress and not a separate sound card).
Bad tapes and RF noise can also cause frame drops, which the DVD Xpress may not handle gracefully.

Try using the special capture software that came with your capture device (Capture Wizard?). (Video Studio SE may have come bundled with your hardware, but the Ulead software was not written specifically for it.)
Sync problems can be difficult to track-down... You can have an MPEG with a tiny bit of "sneaky" file corruption. It may play-back fine, but get out of sync later when it's re-coded or re-multiplexed. For example, a bad video-frame might get thrown-away without throwing-away the audio for that frame... Now your audio and video are out of sync.
This kind of MPEG corruption can happen if there's a glitch or a CPU interruption during capture, or by bad tapes or interference, like THoff said. I've corrupted MPEGs simply by editing them. (MPEGs are not meant to be edited, and I now use a special-purpose MPEG editor.)

The tapes I have aren't the best.
My nest thought is, would upgrading to VideoStudio 9 or 10 be the easiest route for a quick fix? Does DVD Express come bundles with these newer versions? And does it let you capture in AVI instead of MPEG through my USB port?
Thanks for your all your input and help! Greatly appreciated! (I will try Cap Wizard and see if that works better)
