I created and burned a dvd. I would now like to take some of the video from the dvd and place it in the timeline but Ulead VideoStudio doesn't seem to be able to capture or copy it from the dvd.
Mike
Can I capture from a Ulead VideoStudio created dvd?

1) Can we assume you no longer have the original mpeg-2 from which you made your DVD?
2) You will need to tell us exactly how you tried to import the video from the DVD e.g. did you use the Right click > Insert DVD/DVD-VR command? If so, when the dialogue window came up with the structure of the DVD showing, did you select individual chapters by putting a cross in the little box to the left of the chapter?
3) What version of VS are you using?

Place the DVD in your computer's DVD tray. With VS open go to the "Capture" tab. Select "Import DVD/VR" and navigate to the the DVD. Click on the VIDEO_TS folder and VS will take a moment to read the contents of the disc then give you a dialogue box. Place a check mark beside the titles or chapters you wish to import, then import.

Hi Mike, and welcome to the forums...
To capture video from a DVD you must go to Insert Media File to Timeline>Insert DVD/DVD-R. A browse window will open. Navigate to your DVD, you should see 2 folders, Video_TS and Audio_TS. Ignore the Audio_TS folder it should be empty. Click on the Video_TS folder. When it opens you should see the Title and Chapters for the DVD. Tick the box to the left of the Title(s) and Chapter(s) you want to insert. VS should then insert them into the timeline.
However note that if you insert them, work on the project, then decide to save the project, close the program to return later, AND when you return you have removed the DVD or placed another in the DVD tray, Ulead will attempt to re-link to those clips and not be able to find them. So you could copy the Video_TS folder onto your harddrive, then do the above, just navigate to where you copied the folder, instead of the DVD drive....

Ron,
In past experiences with transferring sections or entire video from a DVD made with VS, I do not recall needing the DVD to link to my new project.
Once the transfered video is in the timeline & saved, I believe the DVD is no longer necessary.
