VS10 Menu Question

Post by dblml320 »

in the VS10 DVD Menu support, could I create a button that causes navigation to another menu? Also, is is possible to build play lists and assign them to a button? :?:

VS doesn't support building playlists - the functionality you are (most likely :-) ) looking for is in DVD Workshop 2.

As Peter has pointed out you need DVD Workshop for playlists.
Regarding the other part of your query I have just completed a section of a tutorial under development. 'From Camcorder to DVD with VideoStudio'

Hi Steve (and Peter),

Thanks for your appends! I tried DVD Workshop, but it is too slow, and buggy. Sure wish they update it however, I like the way it works, once I got the hang of it.

Steve, great tutorial. I am thinking I can approach what I want to do with my DVD if I create two master tracks from the 20 individual tracks I have Authored.

Lets call these tracks "Main" and "Extras". Main will contain 15 tracks, and Extras will contain the other 5 tracks.

I'll need to create two intermediate VS10 projects that renders Main and Extra as single Mpeg2 files.

Then I would combine these into a DVD creation, which should show up on the root menu as two selections.

Within these Main and Extra tracks I would set chapter points at the beginning of each of the original 20 clips. This would cause sub-menus to be generated.

I think in this way, I can more or less simulate a main and extras set of menus.

Am I on the right track?

I also have an adjunct question ... While in the DVD creation section of VS10 .. How does one save the project? Given that VS10 crashes ... I would like it to be saved at every major step along the way. Is there a way to do it?

Jav

I'll get back to you tommorow regarding most of this as it's 2am here in the U.K. and I've just put some matchsticks in my eyes!

Just a quick reply on one point. The matter of saving the DVD Menu as you are constructing it. I am having to do this whilst creating the tutorial bit at a time. what I do is this:

BEFORE commencing the authoring stage from the share tab, I save the project with a meaningful name.
OK might sound odd saving BEFORE we have done anything - however there isn't a save option after you enter the authoring stage.
(If there is I haven't found it yet!)

When you reach a point that you want to save, close the authoring screen and you will see the program doing a save. However that isn't the SAVE that we require - it only appears to be a temporary save.

We are now back at the [share tab].
Now SAVE the project. If you now close VideoStudio, re-open VideoStudio you then select File | Open.
Open your saved project. Go to the share Tab and select create disc.
Now your DVD Menu(s) that you are working on are restored to where you left them.

In fact I think I ought to include this information into the tutorial.

As I said, I'm a bit tired now so I will look at the rest of your query during the afternoon.

Hi Steve,

I tried this out, and it mostly works, that is the good news! The bad news however is two fold:

1.Could only view it in the preview before the burn. VS10 will not burn a disc for me. Just after completion of conversion of menus it terminates without showing an error and does not burn the disc. This happens whether or not I use motion menus

2.Im the end it seems that VS10 will always play all chapters in a track, once you select that track (after the first menu).

I guess my major issue for now is to figure out how to get VS10 to actually burn a disc.
