MPeg program stream not compatible with this DVD engine

Post by sheppydog »

I have edited and created the dvd but when I render the file to burn to disk I get this message. I went in and changed the setting for rerendering mpeg files but still had the same results. Any ideas? The original files were AVI and the program did the conversion for me and I guess this is why I am stumped.

You need to tell us: (1) Where the original AVI came from; (2) its properties -- right click on it within VS and copy the properties here; (3) what editing you did to it; (4) what properties/format you used to convert it before burning; (5) the properties of the burning template. It would also be useful to know something about your computer set-up.

The capture and original edit performed using Pinnacle Liquid 7 from Panasonic dvc30 camera. The file was then rendered as a DV-AVI Sony DV software CODEC -- type 2 Audio PCM The file format is listed as Microsoft AVI files - OpenDML. 29.970 frames/sec Data Rate 1678.25 kbps it is 24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 48.000 khz 16 bit stereo. I have 4 of these files that I placed on the timeline and then asked it to make a DVD. There was no actual editing performed in VS. I then proceeded to create scenes/chapters and moved along with editing the menu titles, text, etc. Then asked it to burn the DVD using the GQ 4:3 (dolby Digital) and started the burn. But when it completes the encoding it pops up the message I mentioned about the MPeg file. But the program is doing the encoding to MPeg itself. I am using a Sony RGB-34 with a sony DVD RW DW-D22A BFS2 burner that handles Multi DVD and DL media. I did use pinnacle Liquid 7 to do a conversion to MPeg files and after I went back into VS I brought those into the DVD creator I performed the same chapter edits and titles on the menu pages and got it to burn a DL DVD. I then tried to use a duplicator to copy the disk as I need 4 copies and I could not copy it using Pinnacle Copy or a stand alone 7 DVD DL tower duplicator. It would always error. Do these DVD created from VS have a copy protection on them or is this also a fluke? I then tried to recreate the same disc over again by loading the files and rechaptering them all over to make my extra copies but this time the program started the burn and then it crashed and had to close so I lost everything. I have to admit that I really liked the way the DVD menus change and the look of the menus and DVD picture was pretty good, good enough to make me want to purchase as I am using the trial version to see if I am going to replace Pinnacle studio 10 with this but it appears that it has a lot of problems like Pinnacle has and I am getting very frustrated with the whole windows/PC based editing and feel I may need to scrap the whole of me editing suite, 3 PC's and invest into Mac's I seem to have the worst luck with PC's not working very long without getting into some strange area of self destruction with the loaded software. If this is not typical of the purchased version I may be willing to try it but if their is not any difference to the functionality then I am not sure. I hope that this helps and you have some suggestions for smoothing things out. I appreciate your time and look forward to your response and ideas or suggestions.

The properties you give for the DV/AVI file seem fairly normal, except that the 'data rate' seems abnormally low for such a file -- normally A DV/AVI would run at 25,000 kbps and nowhere near as low as the rate you give (1678.25 kbps). Is that the rate given in Video Studio or in Liquid?

But it seems to me you also have a problem in that you are going straight from the DV/AVI to the burn stage. While this is of course possible with Video Studio, we generally don't recommend it.

Instead, we recommend that you have your DVs in the timeline, then go first to Share > Create Video File > DVD to actually first create a DVD-compatible mpeg-2. Depending on how long the 4 videos are and the quality you are after, you may want to adjust the bitrate (8000 kbps for very high quality DVD, fitting about 1 hour on a single layer disc with LPCM audio or more with Dolby audio; 6000 kbps for still good quality and fitting about 90 minutes to a disc or more with Dolby; or 4000 kbps for reasonable quality for 2 hours per disc.)

Then when that is done (if it gets done with those particular DVs  ), close your project, start a new one with a clean timeline, and go to Share > Create Disc > DVD. Insert your new mpeg-2 in the burning line, and create your menu/chapters.

I would then recommend that instead of actually burning a disc on the final page of the burning module, you select instead either to make a disc image file (.ISO) or DVD folders (Video_TS) since you plan to burn several copies. But doing it this way also allows you to play the finished project back for a final check before you actually burn it to disc. Or in your present case, to make sure it all plays OK.

And you can do the actual burning itself either with VS itself, or with a third party burning program such as Nero.

i get the same error with the Moviefactory 5.0 on different computers. I only use Photos for a diashow and no videos. After 3hours of rendering the error occurs.

What can i do?
