Problem saving a video file

Post by jake7363 »

Hi,
I own a version of Video Studio 9.0 and am having a problem saving to a Video File either to a DVD file (NTSC DVD) or MPEG 2. I have a 60G hard drive with 83% free. I tried both ways and no file is saved, no errors reported. I can see the file saving in protgress, but when it completes, no file is saved. I have verified the path, etc. all settings seem to me to be ok.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jake

What is the duration or size of the file you are trying to save and when is the last time you rebooted your computer? I've owned 4 versions of Video Studio and I've never had a 'render' time out on me.

It's not a time out, really. I can see it saving to the end, but when the final "write" comes, it doesn't seem to. To answer: 4:58 and the file size is somewhere around 128M (just before it reaches 100%) and I always reboot (and defrag) just before I save the file or burn a DVD, so the programs running in the background are minimal.

Both examples you give , NTSC DVD and MPEG2 involve rendering to MPEG2. Have you tried rendering to AVI to see if the same thing happens? I'm not suggesting this as a solution but rather as a tool to see if this happens with multiple formats.

We are getting the cart a little before the horse here. We don't know what sort of file it is you are trying to burn to DVD. Where was it captured from and how? Right click on the original file within VS and copy the properties to here. Tell us exactly what you did then -- any editing? After editing, did you then, as is recommended, go to Share > Create Video File > DVD (or mpeg-2 -- it should be 'DVD' if you intend to burn a DVD with it; 'mpeg-2' is not necessarily automatically DVD- compatible.) And then, did you close your existing project, open a new one with nothing in the timeline, and then go to Share > Create Disc, insert your new DVD-compatible file into the burning timeline (and NOT/NOT the project file)? Or did you jump the stage of Share > Create Video File > DVD and instead (not recommended) go straight to Share > Create Disc?

Until we know these sorts of things, we would all be dancing in the dark, I am afraid!!

>>We don't know what sort of file it is you are trying to burn to DVD.
A. At this point, I am not ready to burn to DVD, only attempting to save the file to review for final edit.

>>Where was it captured from and how?
A. The project contains only two copies of a photo (to apply affects, filters and transition), an MP3 sound file and a few titles.

>> Right click on the original file within VS and copy the properties to here.
A. I am guessing you mean original "video" file, but as stated above, there is none.

>>Tell us exactly what you did then -- any editing?
A. Added photos to timeline, along with audio file; added filter to photo 1; added filter to photo w; added transition; added 8 titles.

>> After editing, did you then, as is recommended, go to Share > Create Video File > DVD (or mpeg-2 -- it should be 'DVD' if you intend to burn a DVD with it; 'mpeg-2' is not necessarily automatically DVD- compatible.)
A. This is what I did and this is where I am having the problem.

>>And then, did you close your existing project, open a new one with nothing in the timeline, and then go to Share > Create Disc, insert your new DVD-compatible file into the burning timeline (and NOT/NOT the project file)? Or did you jump the stage of Share > Create Video File > DVD and instead (not recommended) go straight to Share > Create Disc?
A. Did none of this. Per the original post, all I attempted was to save to file as in the previous question.

Hope this clarifies the issue. Thanks.

Jake.

Sorry, but it doesn't, not entirely. Where do you expect to see the new file?

Did you note down the path to the location of the saved file? I assume you did but one can't be sure.

Jake -- sorry. Another question (or two)! But what were the filters you applied? And do you mean that you only have two still photos (or two of the same) but have both of them extended to stay on screen over 4 minutes?

Moreover, what were the properties you were using to render this to a DVD-file or an mpeg-2 file? Normally, with still photos (I am not sure 2 phots qualify as a slideshow!!), you use frame based as the Field Order. What did you use?

Perhaps most importantly, have you tried converting your MP3 background to WAV format? A number of people have trouble with certain kinds of mp3 files, including those using the LAME MP3 format (which is used in Nero). Converting the audio to WAV format usually resolves that problem.

Hi

Once Share - Create Video File is complete, a thumbnail of the file should be placed in the video library.
If you get a thumbnail, right click and select properties, the file name indicates the save location.

If you do not get the thumbnail then the render process is failing.
Why is the question.
