I have previously successfully loaded MPEG4 video clips (from hard drive, originally from an olympus digital camera) into UVS7SEbasic.
However since reinstalling windows and updating several drivers, including ATI graphics card driver. Now whenever I try to load (small, eg 10meg) MPEG4 files from hard drive, the program exits to desktop spontaneously.
Any conflict between UVS7(SE Basic) and ATI graphics driver?

In general, your graphics card/driver are not involved in any of that. The data only goes to the video card/driver for display... The actual video encoding, processing, decoding, etc., is done between the hard drive, data bus, and CPU.
Maybe you're missing an MPEG-4 codec. Did you re-install the software that came with the camera? AFAIK, VS7 didn't come with an MPEG-4 codec.

Did your version of VS7 SE Basic come bundled with the camera? If so, then it may have been altered to work with the camera and (as Doug has suggested) more especially with the camera drivers. Changing the latter (and the rest of the computer set-up re drivers) would lead to the inability of VS7 to operate correctly. This is the only explanation I can think of since, as Doug has correctly stated, VS7 in its normal form could not handle mpeg-4 videos at all. That ability only came with VS9, and then only with a plug-in.

Thanks, we have solved it.
UVS 7 SE basic is? modified as it definitely does MPEG4
The codec came from Quicktime I think.
I have sorted it by getting the latest QT, alsofree codecs 3ivX and DivX.
(For the record I am now trialling uVS10+, and in doing so, the new installation of UVS10+demo has stopped UVS7SEBasic from handling MPEG4!?!?, but this will not be a problem as UVS10+ seems worth having!)
