5.1 Question
I have dvd that only has a stereo soundtrack, my idea is to load this dvd onto VS 10+ and convert the stereo soundtrack to 5.1...... would this work and if so would it be worthwhile/beneficial?
Some considerations....
In most cases, it's better to leave it alone.
Your Pro Logic receiver has a Dolby Surround decoder, as well as various other modes for distributing the sound to all of the speakers. If you leave it as 2-channels, the receiver can do all of the work, and the viewer has more options.
VS10 does not have a Dolby Surround decoder. So, if the original 2-channel source happens to be a Dolby Surround encoded soundtrack, the original encoding will be lost if you convert it to 5.1 without properly decoding it.
However, if you want total control of the sound location, 5.1 Digital is the only way to go.
