Project properties - VS9 can the default be changed

Post by jparnold »

I have noticed that the default project properties in VS9 are for MPEG at 16:9 aspect ratio.
Is there anyway to make a permanent change to these defaults?

Most of the time this doesn't matter as I have "set properties to first clip" set but when I want to CREATE DISK and do NOT import a clip but simply ADD VIDEO FILES I notice that the 16:9 menu templates are displayed instead of the 4:3 ones and so I have to import a clip to over ride the default.
Thanks again for all your help in the past.

John,

I've never seen VS9 default to 16:9 ratio, however about every version I have do have the MPEG default. I don't know if there is a way to change that.

When you start VS9 do you have the following splash screen?
Image Image

If not go to File>Preferences and check the box that says Show Start up Screen.

The first image shows how it should look for 4:3 ratio, the second for 16:9..
Simply click on the icon to change it..

Ron,
Thanks for the quick post.
YES I do get that splash screen and know that if I click on the 16:9 'icon' that is what I will get.
And YES it was 'ticked' - that is why it defaulted to a 16:9 aspect ratio project - SILLY ME.
I can't remember setting the 'tick' on but must have.
I was starting to think that there may be a file containing all the defaults which I could change using a text editor (like the one mentioned on a web page for setting 'show dropped frames' in VS8).
Well I don't have to worry about that now.
Thanks again.
