If it doesn't work, there is a very easy solution:

rename the .mod files to .mpg, and they will work with any program that reads MPEG-2 files, including Ulead programs.

Unfortunately there have been a number of reports regarding the JVC .mod files specifically.
Apparently changing the extension to mpg allows the video to be accessed but causes a loss of audio.
Again this is specific to the JVC cams recording in .mod.

JVC .MOD

The JVC camcorder uses standard MPEG 2 encoding with AC3 2 channel audio. My daugther has one. Who knows why they chose the .MOD extension.

Gary,
Can you confirm for the original poster, if you have VS10, that the program handles the .mod files.
Also as a matter of interest, can you confirm the reports that simply changing the .mod extension to .mpg causes a loss of audio?

i downloaded a trial version of vs10 to try it with the JVC mod files and found that it isi possible to import the mod file directly into the library or through the capture page -> import from mobile devices.

i then tried to make a movie file (mpeg2) , it went fine with no problems.

so there will be no need to change the ext. to mpeg for it to work.

thank you all.
