Beginner problems w/ edit and DL'g "updates

Post by Russellc »

Hello all, my first post here, am having to problems:

1) tried to DL updates for MF3, did so to desktop, but when clicked on, I am told "cannot find MF3"???

2.) perhaps I am doing it wrong, but I am finding it impossible to burn a movie (2hours 58 mins). When I clip off both ends to shorten it, it shows an even larger file than before! I do have preferences set in WINTV pvr2 hauppauge set to "extra long play" Any tips would be most appreciated. I see one of the bugs that the updates are supposed to fix says something about incorrect estimate of file size, but I dont seem to be able to execute the DL on my desktop. ( If I try to clip both ends a whole lot, it indicates a smaller size, but when I try to burn it still prompts me it is to large, and asks if I want it to try to clean it up some, clicking ok doesnt seem to do anything, and I cant burn even if I clip it in half. I am sure I am making an error, but I have read and re read the instructions to no avail.

Thanks, Movieman50

You also don't tell us which version of MF it is you are using. If it is a trial version, your particular problem could indicate that it is, the update patches will not work.

If you used the trial version first, later bought MF3 and simply activated the TBYB version as a full version, you could also have this problem.

I would suggest a complete uninstall of MF3, deletion of all temp file contents (with XP, for all users, incl. the "default user" account) and the installation folders. Clear the registry of all things MF3 (get expert help if you are not familiar with editing the registry since you could render your OS unbootable if you make a mistake).

Reboot your PC and install only the full version of MF3. Make sure it works and commence the installation of the patch.

Let us know how you go. Good luck.

which properties specifically are you speaking about? I dont see a lot of correlation between what is under properties, and the choices I am given to change? When I try to use mpeg and click ok, I get an error message "there is a conflict between your project audio setting and the treat mpeg audio as non dvd compliant option...what am I doing wrong now?

Thanks again,
Russellc
Whoops, I attached this to the wrong quote, sorry!

Setting your "Project Properties" EQUAL to the source videos will help.

If you "Right_Click" on the videos on the Timeline then select "Properties".
When the properties page are displayed then write them down & close that screen.

Then click on the GEAR icon and select "Change Mpeg Settings" -> Customize.
In the Customize screen set ALL the parameters the same as the source video files, click on OK and exit.

When your LOWER the Video_Bit_Rate or use Mpeg or Dolby audio you should see the estimate bar drop down. The lower the Video_Bit_Rate the lower the file size.
Use mpeg or Dolby audio to keep the file size down. Lpcm audio takes up more space.

Which properties specifically are you meaning I write down? I am not seeing a lot of correlation b/w the properties and the choices I am given to change, or dont know what I am looking at. Also, when I try to change to mpeg audio, I am given an error message: "There is a conflict between your project audio setting and the treat mpeg audio as non DVD compliant option." What am I doing wrong? Should I just buy Movie Factory 5?

I have Movie Factory 3 SE<---That's why

Thanks,

Russell,
The SE versions are freebies, Simple Editions that are bundled with hardware, and most patches will not be available for those versions.

Thanks guys, this version did in fact come with my capture card. Now I understand why I cant DL the patches, the other issues still baffle me. I will read the recommended threads and try again!

One last question before I buy new MF version...

Post by Russellc »

Ok, I have read them and my MF version doesnt have the tweak and fit stuff on my bundled version. Now, I have read all sorts of stuff here about people removing and uninstalling etc. When I load my new version, does it jjust go on top of my existing version, (SE) or will I have to do the registry change stuff, which I have read but think is over my head as I really dont want to kill my operating system. Since I have the "SE version" I am hoping it will remove via the control panel, if not I guess I am stuck with what I have. Similar concerns over any driver changes required with my Hauppauge capture which uses Win tv 2000. I thought it was all the same thing as that is what is plastered on the side of the unit. Sorry if this is basic, at this point I can hardly describe the problem, let alone search for it, as I dont know what it is. If that had worked, I wouldnt be making a fool of myself here!

Thanks again,

Russell,

You're not making a fool of yourself. Everyone started at the beginning. The only difference is time.:)

Now it is recommended to uninstall, but most of Ulead's Apps can co-exist. The clean-full uninstall is really not as hard as it seems to be. If needed print out the instructions and just follow exactly what it tells you. Note however that sometimes Ulead or Windows does remove an entry, when in the instructions it says to locate such and such file or entry and you can not find it.

Also it would be wise to create a System Restore Point prior to doing this. That way you have some means to get back to a point before...

Excellent suggestion, and thanks for the time to help, much appreciated.
Isuppose that If I buy now, I will only find MF5? If some of the earlier versions are available, are any reccommended other than MF5? If not, I will not bother to look for them. I use windows xp with the service pack installed, and typically use mozzilla as a browser if that makes any difference. Thanks again for all the help guys!
