Computer freezes up
Hi
When attempting to capture video from a dvd-r, VS9 freezes up and I cannot get out by any method. I happens repeatedly and every time, I have to shut off power to the computer.
I put the DVD in the player. I click on the Capture tab and then on the Import from DVD/DVD-VR symbol. Immediately, the program freezes.
It does the same thing if I try the Movie Wizard and click on the Insert DVD icon. Anyone have any idea how to stop this?
Thanks
Alex

one correction
It is the program itself, not XP that is freezing. In Editor, the whole screen is taken up and I can do nothing. In Movie Wizard, it is a smaller screen and even though it is frozen, I can slide it to one side and open other progams on the desktop. When I try to close the VS9 program I eventually get a message telling me I am trying to close an unresponsive program.
Thanks

Hi Ron,vidoman wrote:Alex,
I might add to DCP's question, do you have any other DVD authoring programs installed? They might be conflicting with VS, as to control of the DVD player.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure. What are some of the other DVD programs? Which one came with VS9? Would it even matter since I am just trying to read the DVD not make one at this time? If there is a conflict would it not have cause a prolem when I made a DVD from a project I downloaded from my Digital Camcorder?
Thanks
Alex

Alex,
1. Some other DVD authoring programs are, Nero and Roxio. Ulead has Burn.now.
2. I would think that you would have the same problems when trying to burn a DVD, made from video captured from your camcorder. However did you mention that in your posts?

Ok since you do have Nero that is one of the 2 major ones that conflict with Ulead. Do you have the InCD which is Nero's Drag N Drop application. InCD is notorious for hijacking DVD burners/players...AlexM wrote:Hi Ron,
I have Nero. No, I have had no problem burning a CD. Remember, right now I am not trying to burn, just import the avi file so I can edit it and then burn.

I do have InCD. I moved it to another folder. Made no difference. I doubt that is the problem because the freeze up is instantaneous, and happens even with no CD in the drive. I am trying Uleads Email tech support which is usually better than their phone support. Their first attempt was usless, but I suppose it was just a standard answer to similar problems. I'll see what they do with my reply.vidoman wrote:Ok since you do have Nero that is one of the 2 major ones that conflict with Ulead. Do you have the InCD which is Nero's Drag N Drop application. I couldn't find nero under Add/Delete so I just deleted the Ahead folder which had all the Nero stuff in it. Made no difference in the freeze problem.lancecarr wrote:Try uninstalling InCD totally, moving it won't help.
It is notorious for seizing control of the CD/DVD tray the second you want to do something with it.
