I am looking at buying MF5 and was wondering if anyone knows how many slide can be put onto a DVD slideshow....

This depends upon several factors such as how long each slide is displayed on screen, use of background sounds.
Think of it this way.
A normal film is made up of lots of pictures.
The PAL System 25 pictures per second. Its just that they are only displayed for 1/25th of a second so you don't get to see each individual picture and so they appear to be moving!
Slow everything down and have one picture say every 3 seconds and you get to see the picture but obviously you get less pictures per hour.
You could make a decent DVD made up of several smaller slideshows rather than one big boring one and have perhaps a thousand pictures on the disc.
Couldn't give you an exact figure of the largest one I've made because I never counted them but a 2 hour slideshow is more than enough for any audience. In fact a 30 minute one is probably too long!
