Analogue Capture......
Been using VS 8E really like it..........however it does not encode too AC3 Dolby Digital. LPCM takes up too much space and doesn't seem to be 100% compatible with NTSC DVD players!!!!
Therefore an upgrade is in order......VS10 is terrific, however it will not capture analogue video via a Leadtek TV2000 Expert card. I use the card for VHS to DVD conversions.
Downloaded all the alternate video editors (PowerProcducer etc...) they all capture via the card. Granted this may not be the ideal ideal capture method - however the VHS tapes aren't Hollywood productions and there is no editing involved.
I also have a Hauppage PVR-150 which works with all the video editor alternatives.
Now for why I posted this...
Uead bundled there software with capture cards in order to seed the market with there product, in my case it worked, the first place I looked for an upgrade is ULEAD. Unfortunatly I am forced to look/evaluate elsewhere!!!!!!

Indications from this forum are that none of us has yet got the Hauppauge TV cards to work with VS10. Even though they work correctly with VS9 or MovieFactory.
The answer is to use the software that comes with the TV card to capture.
You can then open that file with VideoStudio for editing.
The Various tutorials on the forum are often cross-platform but to give a feeling of diversity different products are used to provide "How to" guides.
Please view this one where I describe using the WinTV2000 software to capture a TV broadcast and then open it with MovieFactory.

A carpenter doesn't just use one saw, a mechanic just one spanner, there is no reason why you can't use multiple progammes to get where you want in the end.
Capture with one, make you dvd with another.
I realise you may well want an all in one, but it's suprising how many people don't think of this option.

Thank you for your QUICK responses...........
Indeed multiple programs can be used to accomplish a single purpose, that I have done!!
In response to "skier-hughes" comment about a carpenter. I am a carpenter!! Most if not all carpenters carry their tools in one case, or in my case the back of a Jeep. This one location saves time!!
However your point is a good one.........brought a smile to my face - thanks!!

I am also surprised to hear you can't capture in VS10 with your Leadtek card. I have the Leadtek DV2000 TV card, and have no problem capturing both the TV signal and analogue video through this card using both VS9 and VS10+. (I did not have the card when I used VS8.) I must say, though, that I prefer using the native capture program which is installed as part of the Leadtek software and can be accessed through the little TV/FM control panel. It produces very good quality and DVD compatible mpeg-2.
And one point of correction: it is not Ulead bundling their software with some hardware. It is the hardware producer bundling the Ulead software -- though I am sure Ulead is happily going along with this.
And a second point of correction: LPCM is totally compatible with the NTSC DVD standard, as it is with the PAL standard. It is mpeg layer 2 audio which is not part of the NTSC DVD standard, and it is this which your card actually captures to, not LPCM. I live in PAL land, where mpeg audio IS part of the DVD standard, but I understand that it also will work on most modern NTSC DVD players.

I've found Ulead's capture software to be less good than dedicated capture devices such as the ADS DX2. I now always capture with a capture device and import files into video studio. I find Folkboat's statement about LPCM interesting. LPCM is part of the DVD standard and I've always found it totally compatible with NTSC DVD players. MPEG audio is a different story.

Indeed LPCM is part of the NTSC standard. However I've authored slide shows using LPCM and it plays in Toshiba, JVC, Motorola, Sony, Phillips but not a Kenwood. I authored the same content using AC3 and it played fine in the Kenwood - go figure........
Additionally the DVD's are +R "Ridata" 8X burned at 4X. Book Set to
"DVD-ROM" burned with Nero, VS8E or DVDMF3.

I think this tells us it's the player/disc combination here that's the problem, not just the pcm audio.folkboat wrote:Indeed LPCM is part of the NTSC standard. Good call on the carpenter shot then!! But I'd have put the pc down as the case in which you carry(install) your tools

Analogue Capture.........UPDATE!!
The Leadtek TV2000 Expert card now works with VS10 Plus and DVDMF5.
Two things I did:
1) re-installed the Leadtek driver set
2) updated the Leadtek drivers
When I first got this card (2-3yrs ago) I recall having similar problems with another application. Someone on the board (tv-cards.com) suggested re-installing the Leadtek drivers AFTER installing the application.
It worked back than, it seems to have worked today!
Granted installing new updated Leadtek drivers may have solved the problem.............in either case it WORKS!!!!!
Thought this revelation was worth sharing.
Regards

It just means he wrote something, thought better of it, and deleted what he had written. Sometimes, for example, I could be writing an answer to a question, but by the time I do it, someone else has already answered with exactly the same advice as me, so there is no point in having two posts saying exactly the same thing. The problem with the physical working of this Board is that we can edit our posts, but we cannot actually remove them totally. So we just write 'delete' instead. So don't worry: it is NOT an order to a previous poster to delete his or her message!!!
