I wouldn't worry about it too much at the moment - last I heard, Vista wasn't expected until 2007 sometime - VS 11 should be out by then.

that means i will upgade my VS8 to VS 11 and skip the 10.

I've successfully captured (with lost frames) edited and authored and burnt a home video DVD with VS8. I"m extremely satisfied with what VS can do. thinking about upgrading my system in a year or so to a vista system, i may just wait and upgrade to VS11 when it comes out.

Your system, even though a bit on the weak side, should have no problem with capturing DV-AVI without dropping frames. I have captured in the past with a PII - 800MHz and 186 MB RAM.

It may be your external HDD if you capture to that. I would make it internal, master on the secondary IDE and enable UDMA.

I think a lot of users may even wait for Vista Service pack 1 to arrive :D

I downloaded the public beta of Vista last week--a few days ago, just to see if it would work, I tried installing the trial of VideoStudio 10. On my own system, there was no audio--zilch. I could load in a video file, even edit it--but no audio could be heard. I never tried rendering a file to see if it would render with audio though. The audio portion of Vista, from what I've read, is somewhat of a radical departure from earlier versions of Windows, even XP...so this, perhaps, could be the reason.

I wouldn't worry a great deal, because this is such an early beta. An early release candidate of Windows XP wouldn't work with my soundcard, my modem, or my scanner. It wouldn't even work with my ATI video card until a setting in BIOS was altered. Much will be ironed out by the time Vista hits the shelves, and it will most certainly get even better during those early retail months.

I had a similar sound problem with Movie Factory 4. I have Vista Beta 2 installed (dual boot, so my main system is still intact and not touched), and Movie Factory 4 installed and does run. However, when I load an mpg or avi file to edit in the program, I get no sound at all. The same file will play with sound in the Ulead DVD player 2 and also in Windows Media Player 11. But not in MF4. I would like to think ULead would work on a fix for this so that it's users won't lose out when they get new computers with Vista. (I would not upgrade to Vista on my own any time soon! It is just not that big an improvement and has MANY bugs at the present time.)
I haven't had time to actually try to burn a DVD, especially since w/o sound, the video editing is a bit of a problem.

Don't let us down, ULead!

Thanks, JoRene

Vista now is still under beta and is not a stable platform yet.

I believe when Vista final version is out, Ulead will be ready for it.

Hope this helps.

Seriously though according to this link Vista means "pleasing view."

Encarta defines Vista as
1 a long narrow view as between rows of trees.
2 a mental view of a long succession of remembered or anticipated events (opened up new vistas to his ambition).
VV vistaed adj.
Italian, = view, from visto 'seen', past part. of vedere 'see', from Latin vid¶re
