VideoStudio 10 - Capture with ADSTech DVDXpress DX2

Post by philjackman »

My DVDXpress DX2 came with Ulead VideoStudio 9 SE DVD. Video capture works fine with the ADSTech program CapWiz and with VideoStudio 9 SE. Since I liked the video editing functions, I purchased VideoStudio 10 (download version). Video capture does not work with VideoStudio 10 - in fact the program crashes when I try to use capture mode.
I'm trying to find out whether its supposed to work with the DVDXpress DX2. Tech. support has been no help.

Only the bundled Video Studio 9SE software has the necessary drivers to capture directly from the DX2. To use the DX2 with video studio 10, you need to capture using the capwiz software and then import those files into video studio 10. FYI: My experience is that the capwiz software captures perfectly every time and is a better option than using the the Video Studio capture software. You could always capture to VS9 SE and then import those files into VS10 if you prefer.

Thanks Terry. That's what I have been doing so far. I got the following from Ulead tech. support and that's why I posted the original question:
-------------------------------------------
Does VideoStudio 10 support video capture using an ADSTech DVDExpress DX2 as the video capture device?
-------------------------------------------

Dear Phil,

Yes it does. Can you try driver updates for your capture device? Please refer to its manual on how to obtain updated drivers for your capture device.

You may also try to reinstall again your VS10 as it might be installed unstable.

Hope this helps. Thanks and goodluck!

They are not very much help.

Hi Phil,

ADS told me that specific Drivers were tested and that only the bundled version of Video Studio was likely to work regarding capture. Ulead tech support is not always what it should be, Phil, and I think you'll find it more beneficial to get your answers here rather than there. As an example, I think you could uninstall and reinstall VS10 until hell freezes over and it still won't see the DX2 without a driver update.
