Thank you, but I'm sad to say that the links didn't help me out very much.

Hi Kyle,

Your Capture Properties and video properties could be a key as to why VS8SE is crashing. Default and and from VCR doesn't tell us much...

**EDIT**

I just found the website for your capture device Lifeview. It shows that VS8 and DVDMF (looks to be MF3) is bundled with your pcmcia card. The specs show that you can capture analogue to MPEG-4, MPEG-2, or MPEG-1. So I suspect that you are trying to capture to MPEG-2 correct? If so that is what I would recommend due to your limitations.

Now what we need to look at is, are you disabling all background applications while capturing? Such as any antivirus, screensavers, power-down (hybernate, sleep, stand-by), spyware, internet/netcards? Anything that would or could use cpu needs to be disabled, in order to give all the horsepower to your capturing.

However VS8 (full version) was a real buggy program. Since you just have the SE version then the updates or patches will not install. Those updates helped fix some of the problems with that version.

If you are going to be doing much video editing, I would recommend looking at getting VS9, which could be obtained for a reasonable price now that VS10 is the current release. Or go to Ulead's site and download the trial version of VS10+ and see what think about it. Since you have VS8SE you should qualify for the upgrade price if you choose to go that route...

Thanks alot I really didn't understand those questions anyways...I don't plan on using VS for editing, i'm using it because its the only program that will find my device and use it..I have tried my card on my friends laptops and he has VS 9 and VS 10 and neither of them will support my card. I'll give it a try later and see whats happens.

If you have tried it on a system that has VS9 & 10 and it doesn't see your card, then that answers that question.

When a manufacturer bundles a software program with their hardware, then the sofware is tailored the specific hardware. Drivers are generally written for that type of hardware. The downside is that the bundled software is close to or already outdated, and are trimmed down.

**EDIT**

I just looked at the specs for your laptop. The one I looked at shows that it has Firewire, iLink, IEEE1394 port. That's what you need to use to capture video, not the Lifeview card, unless you are not capturing from a camcorder.
