transparent gif

how do i save a picture so that the background is transparent. This is a small logo that has a plain white background that i want to be transparent when displayed on a web page

Which version of PI?

With your image open (PI 10), press F4, select Gif Options tab and color depth for your gif, select the Mask Option tab, select a color for the matte corresponding to your web background, for Mask select Pick Color from the drop down menu, select the eye dropper tool and click on the color in your image you want to be transparent, go back to the Gif Options tab and the Transparency option. That's it. Your preview window will show you the transparent gif. Save the image and place it on your web page.

I am using PI11.
I was able to follow your directions.
can i use the same technique to convert a jpg to a trans gif?

Of course, just open it in PI and follow the same routine to save as a gif.
