jerky playback

Post by girly »

Anyone know why my home video plays back jerkily. They never used to I'm sure. When I play each clip it looks ok but when I playback the finished video it doesn't play smoothly.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Girly

It sounds like you are playing back the video in VS, using Project mode. If that is the case, then yes the playback may be jerky. It is just a representation of how the project will be with all edits, effects, transitions etc, being put together "on-the-fly".

Have you tried rendering the project, Share>Create Video, to see if the jerkiness is still there?

Thanks. I haven't rendered it yet as my last video was the same and looked the same after it was rendered so I'm reluctant to finish the job.

So you are viewing it in VS using Project Mode, correct? The results you are getting can be expected.

Why be reluctant to finish it? If you render, or create a video file, and it doesn't appear as it should then you can simply delete it.

You can create a video file: Share>Create Video and view the video file using Windows Media Player or some other program you may have. OR

You can create Video_TS, Audio_TS folders on your HDD, and view it using the Intervideo WinDVD player or Ulead DVD Player to view it.
To burn to your hard drive: Share>Create Disc Uncheck burn to disc, click the drop-down arrow on the right, and you will see the options to Create Folders or ISO file.

It would be extremely helpful if we had some basic information, such as what was the source of your home video, how did you capture it, in what format, and exactly what steps you are taking to render it. And importantly, what format are you rendering it to?

Thanks Vidoman/Ken

I have rendered it to a DVD and it's fine. I read a post about a similar situation where VCD was made which was what I have been doing. DVD seems the best option. Maybe that's why my videos were not perfect. I will use DVD from now.

Thanks all

Girly,

Good choice, VCD is the lowest quality, using MPEG-1 with screen resolutions of about 352 x 240. If you are going to produce a DVD, then you shouldn't use those (VCD or SVCD) settings.
