I've played it in UVS, Quicktime and Windows, all with the same result. Do you think I need to compress the file?
The origianl clip from the camera or the one you created?

Same problem QT from Kodak still camera into US8

Post by amdytham »

I have had same problem QT from Kodak still camera (EasyShare dx7630 i think) into US8 (a bought copy). Can play in US8 but rendering a new movie produces an almost completely frozen video file with no sound. Played resultant file fails in US8 and QuickTime Player, Zoom, VirtualDub you name it. The MOV file from the camera is uses MPEG4 codec I believe and my thoughts were that that may be the problem as you can't write out in that format though I was trying to do so in MPEG1. Didn't realise QT is also a container file! Interesting.

I will try to make sense of advice above and try.

I've never converted or worked with such files but matching the framerate is probably the key.

My camera is a Kodak Easyshare DX4530. So you've had the same problem with trying to edit it's video? Have you resolved the problem? What do you suggest?

Put a single clip on the timeline go to share>create video>custom Selct AVI files from the drop down then hit options, try the mpeg4 codec if present. You make few test clips try some different codec under the compression setting. Note that some will compress well making a small file size but will reduce the quality. Just make sure you match the other settings as close to the original properties as possible, you may have to pick 15 as a framerate.

Once you figured out a good setup follow the directions I gave you above to set up a template if you plan on using it a lot.
ok, coalman.. I now have sound! woohoo! progress!

But still no movement. I went under share>create video>custom, as you said, and changed the audio compression to match the clips properties. I did the same with the video compression, except under the options, it had "key frame for every ___ frames" and it had it set at 24 in the blank. Should I change that number to something else? I also was able to pick the framerate as 15...And under options>advanced, should I do anything with "target playback drive" or "check data rate"?

As long as you matched the framerate it should work, I really don't know what else to suggest, you probably have to match the fmaerate exactly,

Try 16 and 14 and see what happens.

There were no 14 or 16 options, next up was 23.

So, there's nothing else to suggest? There isn't anything I should do with keying frames or target playback drive?

QuickTime MOV files from digital camera usually will have this problem, this is because of the CODEC they use.

You might need to use some third party tool to convert the MOV files to other file type such as AVI to solve the issue.

Hope this helps.

Still struggling

Post by amdytham »

:( Had a second try and still struggling. The QT files are frame rate of 23.954 per sec, MPEG-4 320x240, millions.! Audio is mono 8KHz, uLaw2.1. 124.5Kbps. Tried two different remplates of my making. (Noticed ULead will sell you a upgrade for MPEG4 codec.)Wondering if my editing format needs amending but I am still very new to UVS. I will just be very annoyed if despite it stating QuickTime on the box I can do nothing with the camera files.

If QT files are container files surely something will extract the video so we could end up with just a basic MPEG4 file (or as suggested above) move it inot a AVI container instead? What works on QT files apart from Apple stuff? anything? Virtual Dub doesn't!
