Insufficient memory when rendering

Post by nxtlvldom »

I have created a 7min slide show for my class reunion and am trying to render it WMV HD. However I keep getting insufficient memory error. I am using VS 9 and have downloaded and installed all the updates. I defragged, cleared my temp files, maxed my virtual memory on both hard drives and still am not able to finish rendering. I also cleared every process possible in the task manager. I'm starting to think this is not a memory problem at all.

I have been able to render it low quality. However this is going to be viewed via projector.

Please help!

Are you using multiple overlay tracks during your render? It appears that with VS10 +, when using overlay tracks beyond the single default overlay track, the memory usuage rises quickly as does the system virtual memory as the Windows OS reacts to what VS is doing. The end result of this would be the error message you are seeing and a failed render. Ulead needs to address this issue.

Thanks and yes I am using multiple overlay tracks. Now if I render in sections and rerender everything together will that work?

Yes. There may be a slight quality loss, but it shouldn't be significant.

Nxtlvldom,

Without using the overlay tracks, I just transcoded an Mpeg2 HD video file to WMF using the 1440x1080 template, which sets the video bitrate at 18 Mbps. The transcoding time was a little more than 20X on my 3GHz P4 HT. The file was nearly 2/3 of the size of the Mpeg2 file - NOT much compression, compared to Divx HD @VBR= 8Mbps, which is usually able to produce 25 - 30% of Mpeg2 file size.

The CPU was maxed out and so was the memory page file usage, which hovered at about 900 - 1000 MB - just at the limit of my installed memory, With 80MB set aside for XP, this was right on the edge of thrashing - but it did not, and regularly released memory when memory approached 1GB usage. Playback using WMP was fine. Media Player Classic displayed the wrong aspect ratio (squeezed) so the PAR may not be getting set right.

So, this leaves the overlay track usage as the possible culprit.

What WMF video properties (or template) did you select and what did you put on the overlay track?
