Capture problem - picture screwy

Post by fyreheart »

Hi Guys,

I wonder if anyone might be able to help out with this bizarre problem of mine. Whenever I capture video to my work computer the image get's screwed up? Now I know it's not the software or the hardware cos I've tested on my home computer, and everything works fine.

So any thoughts on why my work computer produces an image that looks like this?

That picture is bizarre! What workflow did you use to capture? What is the make and model of the camorder? Did you use firewire to capture? How did you setup the capture (video) properties? Please fill out your computer specs in your forum profile.

Wow...to be honest I didn't expect such a quick response :)

Ok I've filled in the specs of the computer, as for the cam it's a Sony HDR-FX1E and yes the capture is by firewire. As for the workflow??? hmm I have no idea....gimme a clue  :D I do know it doesn't seem to matter what capture plug-in I use it's just not having it, I just seem to be able to get the garbled picture!

When the capture at work produced such odd results I thought I would take the camera home and hook it up to my home computer. Which I did...again the connection was by firewire...and everything worked great. The main difference is that my home computer is XP-SP2

You must be using Video Studio 10+, right? Your computer specs are fine for editing high definition video, assuming you have at least 20+ GB of free space on your hard drive. Have you set the FX1 to transfer high definition or standard definition DV?

For an example of workflow, see Hi Def. Tutorial at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13872 for my workflow.

Your bizarre picture looks more like a cockpit error than a bug... :?

Edit: BTW, here is a link to an FX1 forum http://www.sonyhdvinfo.com/forumdisplay ... une=-1&f=2

I've seen video that looked like that when DivX 6 went through some teething problems a few months ago. Even video that was encoded using earlier versions of the codec got corrupted on playback.

However, I think what you are looking at are problems with the video card driver. Try installing the most recent WHQL-certified drivers for your card/chipset.

Screwy picture with Sony HDR-FX1E capture in MSP8 with Win2k

Post by pounder40 »

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I taped in HDV and have set the settings in the camera to output in DV, but the picture is pixelated just like the sample 'fyreheart' posted. I'm using win2000 and don't really want to go to win xp, especially if I just want DV quality. I know Win2000 doesn't support HDV capture with my camera, but the camera is supposed to allow DV output from HDV recordings.
Running MSP8 on a Athlon 1800 with a Matrox g550 graphics card.
Please help!!
