VS10 Plus download or boxed? Are they the same content wise.

Post by Chris92 »

When you buy the download version of VS10 Plus do you get the same content that is on the Boxed version?

I see the boxed version comes with a bouns cd do you get that when you buy the download version? The extra content really makes a complete package and if you get more content buying the boxed one thats what i will buy.

In total you get the same content - beause in fact there are two downloads - one is the programme file at 135Mb as listed - then there is the second 'extra content' (smartdownload) of around 700Mb - plus if you do not have all additional drivers (DirectX etc.) you need to download those.

If you are on dial-up it can take a very long time and you should use some sort of download manager.

It also seems that many of the people on these forums who use the download have a number of problems with their installation and I think you will find that the users on here who have upgraded before much prefer to buy the boxed set - it may mean paying shipping and having to wait a while but we think a hassle free installation is worth it.

Also with the discs you can 'repair' your installation at any time which is not an option with the download.

You also get the handy-dandy instruction booklet with the boxed version.

Plus the manual which comes with the boxed versions is so small as to be virtually illegible. So in any case it is better to download the web version of it and -- as I do -- consult it as necessary on screen (which at least I can read). Or, of course, if you want, you could print it off and have it in a legible sized hard copy...

Box

Did you get a box when you upgraded with the "boxed" version?

All I got was a flat envelope with the CDs and manual. I kindof like having the physical box because I can put it on my shelf and I know where all the pieces are. Now the CDs will get separated from the manual and I'll have to hope I don't lose track of both.

No -- an envelope, disc and downsized manual are all you get. The actual boxes seem to have gone the way of the dodo, it appears. I also think it a pity. I still have have the nice box VS7 came in, lo! these many moons ago...

If you download, I recommend to order the CD disk, so you can use the "repair" function when a VS10+ file is corrupted. I have repaired my VS10+ twice allready, as I install different programs and then delete them..some how I end up corrupting VS10+ and have to repair it

Joe, so did Ulead finally change the installation on an ESD version so you are able to do a repair? I have the full box version and of course it does. However with VS9 and earlier, the Back-up CD is just a copy of the ESD, and does not allow for doing a Repair..

Videman...I made an assumption that the ESD CD version had a repair
function similar to my full version VS10+ that came in a box. So..if the ESD CD version does not have the repair function...then for sure I would only recommend the full boxed version...cause I sure have used that repair function a couple of times...
Regrets..if I steered the original poster in the wrong direction...
Thanks for pointing that out Vidoman...looks like the full boxed version only has the repair function ?
