MSP8 SP1 - Lost Storyboard

I was working on a project for a bit. I had about 10 minutes of video in my timeline and I added both video and image clips to my storyboard to arrange the next section. I saved the project many times while I was moving things around in the storyboard, and then I saved, stopped working and did something else. I had received no error messages.

I came back later, called up my project and the storyboard information was missing although the timeline was fine. I tried looking for storyboard info with my various layouts, and the storyboard is empty. I went back to earlier automatic backup versions, and the storyboard still shows as empty, even during times when I know I was working on it.

I did not 1) purposely delete the storyboard, 2) insert anything from the storyboard into the timeline, and I never use the clear storyboard option (I usually clear manually after I'm done with a section). In case it's relevant, I just applied MSP8 SP1, and I've never had this problem before.

Any ideas on how this happened, what I can do to prevent it in the future and (dream on!) how to get it back without recreating the storyboard, which took me quite a bit of time?
