Importing a VCD into VideoStudio 9

Post by ironclaw »

Hi, can anyone help please? I have no problem importing a DVD into VS9 for editing, via the appropriate button, but when I try to import an old VCD into VS9 for editing it doesn't accept it. Both DVD's and VCD's are "home made" recordings and don't contain video protection.

Hi Ironclaw,

To import a VCD into VS you need to use Insert Video not the DVD-VR.

1. Select File>Insert Video
2. Browse to your CD.
3. You should see a folder MPEGAV
4. Click to open that folder.
5. Now there should be a file something like AVSEQ01.dat That is the one you open and insert. It's like a VOB file in DVD...
6. If you have checked in your Preferences to Display message when inserting first clip... then you should get a prompt asking if you want to change your Project Properties to match your video file...

Hi, thanks for your reply, but when I follow your instructions, I get as far as finding the AVSOQ01.dat file, but when I try to open it, the VS9 program "hangs"..... "program not responding" message. Is there another method I can try to import a VCD into VS9 for editing? Help, somebody, please!

Ok, there will be a DAT file in the MPEGAV folder on the VCD disc. If you try to "insert video" from within VS9 all it will do anyway is link to the file in the VCD itself rather than copy it across to your hard drive.
Open the VCD using widows explorer and navigate to the MPEGAV folder. Drag the .DAT file in there across to where you want it on your hard drive. Then open VS9 and use the insert video command and it will link to the file so you can now edit or whatever.
