Split capture AVI files by datecode in DMF5 ?

Post by tommoynihan »

I currently run DMF3 and I am trialling DMF5.

One of the new (and potentially useful) options in DMF5 is the option to split a capture into separate AVI clips based on datecode (Capture - Advanced settings > Capture options > Split video > by date change

Like so many other things in the trial version, this does not work, however I was wondering whether any full version DMF5 users could confirm that it does work in the full version ?

Thanks.

I am dealing with this issue now and I purchased the full version. Hopefully, someone here has some insight. My thread about it is somewhere close to yours. I do have all the settings according to the manual but with no luck.

DMF5 trial still not splitting by datecode

Post by tommoynihan »

Following the suggestion by maddrummer3301, I tried doing a full capture with split by datecode enabled. This test was with the DMF5 trial version.

Whether the tape was at the start or the end the same thing happened : The tape fast forwarded all the way to the end, then it rewound back to the start of the last clip on the tape. It then captured that clip, then it stopped.

Not very useful, but unfortunately indicative of many of the features in the trial version.

Has anyone with the full version of DMF5 got the split by datecode to work ?

Thanks for the reply. Comments as follows :

>Hi,
>I've gotten MF5 retail (ESD) to capture the whole tape.
>Didn't appear to split by date though.
>It did split some up.
>Ran out of time doing the test.

Did it lock up, or was it continually searching through the tape ?

>I'll have to try it again with a demo tape.

That would be useful.

>I don't see how it can split by date when it's splitting the dv.avi into 4gig >chunks anyway.

I think that the presumption is that clips that are split by date would each be smaller than 4 Gig, otherwise they would indeed be split into 4 Gig chunks.

> Maybe the split by date works on dv to mpeg conversion in real-time.

You may be right here, and the feature is only enabled when capturing to mpeg (bad idea for quality IMHO). It would be nice if someone could gets this feature working in any mode !

When you say you managed to transfer the whole tape was this with or without the 4GB split?

Well that's one way to fix a problem !

Post by tommoynihan »

I've just loaded SP1 for MF5

I see Ulead have fixed the splitting the AVI capture file by datecode problem ....

by deleting the feature !!!

Can any else confirm this, or explain why ? I was really hoping for a fix for this feature - it was one of the main reasons why I upgraded from MF3 ! The option has completely disappeared on my installation after SP1.

They seem to have fixed the 4 Gig capture capture limit problem, although most people have probably found ways round that (an older version, or another program !)
