I was the first to report months ago in this forum that MF5 splits AVI input into 4GB chunks. I would be happy to see, but doubt that it is possible, anyone capturing more than 4GB chunks with MF5. Solution - use MF4.
MF2, MF3, MF4, MF5, VS7, VS10+, VS12, Nero Vision Express. Ricoh and Sony 16x DVD recorder, Sony HC5 High def camera. Also Canopus ADVC110 for AV/DV input through firewire

Yes I accept that but would still like to know if anyone has achieved this with MF5 purely and simply so I can pass it onto Ulead.

For info I capture with MSP8 and so until I saw this post I was unaware of the problem.

MF5 4gb chunks, me too plus some ranting

Post by bquerry »

My copy of MF5 captures in 4gb chunks as well (in MF5). That can be gotten around by using MF3, but with VBR not working, and various other issues (all reported by many other folks here), really keeps me from using MF5. I sure wish ULEAD were more responsive and quicker with fixes.

My system: WinXP sp2, ntfs is the only file system on any of my hard drives (1.5 tb of SATA & firewire drives), 2gb ram, 3.4 HT processor.

oh-oh, I shouldn't have started. General moaning and ranting on.... I am a long time, registered user of almost all of the ULEAD products (MF, VS, MSP, DVD Workshop, PI, Cool 3D). I keep buying the product upgrades as they are released and keep being disappointed in product quality. For me MF3 (with patches) is the most reliable for capturing and authoring DVDs. MF4 with patches, or MF5, just have never been able to work reliably enough for me.

I still use Media Studio Plus 6.5 because 7 took too long to become stable, and don't even get me started on PhotoImpact. DVD Workshop has become dated, as well as Cool 3D Production Studio. Maybe MSP 8 has become better, but I am afraid to waste time and effort. I have limited time to spend and want to spend it productively.

ULEAD, it is time to fish or cut bait. Make a LOUD, STRONG, AND COMMITTED STATEMENT to bring up the product quality. Let everyone know you are committed to that goal. Get fixes out quicker and in "smaller" chunks for all of your products. Make your presence known in this forums (I do see HT in here but that is not enough). Do it now, before its too late... rant and moaning off - sorry, but I needed to vent...

I have submitted the following to Ulead Technical Support:
I am one of the forum moderators.
Several users have reported that they are unable to capture avi files without the capture file being split into 4GB chunks.
For details please see this link:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=14614

I have requested forum members to submit an entry if anyone has been able to capture without this ocuring and to date there have been no replies to that request.

Hi Steve,

This problem was already reported to the engineers and I believe there are currently workin on the first DMF5 patch. If there are any users successful in capturing over 4GB, please let us know.

Thank you

Alright, :)

I note 2 things that have occurred..

1. Ulead is paying attention, and working on correcting this problem.
2. There was only a 24 hour turn-around on the Tech support reply...

Pretty good if you ask me..

Good work Steve, before long they might promote you to pres of Ulead..:)

Does MF5 Plus fix the problems reported in MF5? 4gb file limitation, VBR encoding issue, plus numerous others....

If so, when will MF5 standard be fixed? If not, why not? I already spent $40 in May for an upgrade for something that needs fixing; spending another $50 for yet another upgrade and still have unresolved issues is not reasonable. And btw, I have to spend a total of $90 to get MF5 plus as a MF5 standard owner, whereas any one can buy the full version for $80. Where's the logic in that?
