How delete bad frames Version 7 SE

Post by Tippytoes »

I have searched the web, downloaded and perused tutorial after tutorial and cannot find an easy way to delete bad frames in my videos.

I prefer VirtualDub.....for such procedure.....but capturing with Ulead doesn't give me a format so I CAN continue using VD for that.

So really need someone to tell me step by step how to remove bad frames using Ulead Video Studio 7. Normally I am not a dunce.....but it seems that if I have to split scenes, then save part I want, and do this over and over, it is such a waste of time and effort. A program such as this should have an easier way.................I just have not found it.

So would appreciate anyone who can show/tell me how to delete bad frames easily.

Thanks.

It would help us help you if you actually told us something about how you are capturing, and what exactly you are capturing. The fact is that if you follow the recommended procedures (top sticky post, which in fact provide step by step procedures and apply as much to VS 7 as they still mostly do to VS10), you should not be getting corrupts frames, except perhaps one or two dropped frames at the start. And you would avoid this too if you downloaded a small free program called WinDV for capturing if VS7 indeed does not work. And if you are capturing correctly, with that or with VS7 (and for a long time I used nothing but VS7), you certainly would not be needing programs like VirtualDub, excellent though they may be in their own right...

If you are indeed capturing DV format (and I take your possible typo of 'VD' as implying that, rather than the possibility of capturing to VCD format, which is mpeg-1), then all things being equal, VS7 is more than capable of capturing DV with no problems. But as I say, you tell us nothing else e.g. what your computer set-up is, what your camera is, how it is connected to the computer etc.

One basic question: if you are indeed capturing DV, are you using Type 1 encoder (recommended) or the old Ulead default of Type 2. Check in the Options icon about one third the way down the left hand side of the Capture screen. Type 2 typically, with less powerful computers, captures erratically, with either jerky video and/or jerky/corrupt audio. That is why we recommend (again in the Recommended Procedures) that people use Type 1.

Hi Tippy, and welcome to the forums..:)

First, I'm not that familar with VS7, let alone the SE version. I don't know what was left out in your SE from the full version.

Your bad scenes are they garbled, jumpy, blurry parts of the video? Split scenes can be done (if capturing to DV-AVI, by firewire) to Scene Content. Which I would suspect that VS should see such bad scenes as different content. Then once it is all split, you can multi-select all those bad scenes and delete them.

You could also try once you have the video captured to use Multi-trim. This does involve some manual labor on your part, but allows you to quickly scan through the video, setting the Mark-In/Mark-Out points. Then choose to save only the good parts...

Hope that helps..:)

Deleting bad frames

Post by Tippytoes »

Dear Responders,

The bad frames I am referring to are in the original camcorder tape. Buses passing between me and the subject, camera on when it should not have been showing my feet  and such.

I am not used to this program, I admit, and I take short cuts.......Sorry about that......and just want to know at this point how to easily remove those bad parts.

I am capturing in DV/AVI....from analog tapes. Am doing just fine in capturing. They are coming through in fine fashion. And I have burned a great Sample DVD to see results.

Captured using ADS Express device in DV/AVI format......used Ulead 7 SE for editing, then after saving to video file, burned using Sonic MyDVD....

As I originally said, I used to use VirtualDub for editing as it is simple to use, easy to remove bad parts, gives me great control. But it will not recognize the captured files..............So Ulead seems to be the best way to go as I already have the program on my computer.

Also have 30 day trial on version 9. But wasn't using it as it will disappear in a couple weeks and no sense getting used to it as I know I am not buying an upgrade at this point.

Sorry I am rambling.....am so frustrated and want to get going on transferring these analog tapes to digital.

Thanks for quick responses......

Tippy..............
