Where are the movie templates? Videostudio v9

Post by jparnold »

I have recently noticed that when I select Make Movie Templates Manager (under Tools drop down manager) there are NO templates displayed under Available movie templates yet I can render (create) my movies to many 'formats' (PAL DV, PAL DVD etc etc).
When I used to use version 8 all the existing templates were displayed.
I find this concerning.

Hi Jparnold,

Is this the first time you have tried to use the Movie Wizard? Were the templates there before and just disappeared?

If the former, did you d/l or install them? When you download them from Ulead's website, you still must click on them (content packs) to install them. Or if you have the Full CD version, then you must install them from the CD, which I believe are on the 2nd disc.

If it is the latter, then something obviously went goofy with your program. Inorder to fix it, you would need to re-install or do a repair (if you have the full install CD). Also if doing a re-install do the full clean, otherwise remnants of the program remain and will muck up any re-install.

Hi Ron,
Firstly thanks for the quick reply.
In answer to your questions.
It is the first time I have installed VS v9.
I was using v8, uninstalled it and then installed v9.
I didn't think that the the templates would be on CD2 as when I browsed CD2 it seemed to only contain tutorials and video clips.

I am still amazed that I am able to create (render) to many formats (PAL DV, PAL DVD etc) yet I cannot see the file templates.
Or aren't the movie templates used to create (render) movies?

Another thing I found strange was when I loaded a PROJECT (created using v8) it took quite some time to load and appeared to be loading each existing video file (clip) as if copying them somewhere.

John,

You have to install the extra-content packs for the templates to be there. When you first installed VS9, it just installs the main program. Then after that you must install each of the content-packs, which I believe there are at least 4. Click Here to compare the extra content packs, and other files. Those are download links for all the stuff (except Cool 3D) which you should install with VS9. So what you need to look for on your CDs are files like contentpack_part1.exe.

The PAL, NTSC, are "part of" what a Template needs. They are the Video standards for parts of the world.

Like VS8, VS9 when opening a VSP (project file), it is loading the information, clips, transitions, effects, audio, etc.. that is associated with your project. No actual video, audio etc is actually being loaded into VS9. Just a bunch of Links to where all this stuff is. To have all that stuff in one place the project then needs to be rendered to a video file (Share>Create Video)..

For your system to take a long time to load a project there is something else wrong. Are you running any background applications while editing? It is best to shut down all background apps (anti-virus, firewall, spyware, screen-savers, internet connections..) possible while working with video. Then again, since it appears that you don't have VS9 fully installed, that maybe causing the slowness, VS9 is looking for all the other things it needs, which are not installed yet..

Sorry to be at it again, Ron, but this time, I think you may have misunderstood jparnold's original question. He is not talking about the menu templates, but the general 'make movie' templates. I very clearly remember when I first installed VS9 that I too was missing almost all the templates in Make Movie Manager, which I had become used to in VS7 and 8. Yet others, mysteriously, with the same set-up discs (and I had the full version, boxed) showed all the tempates in Make Movie Manager. And they never reappeared, no matter how many times I Repaired, Reinstalled or Restored. So I just got used to it, used Custom to install my own Make Movie templates there when needed. Yet the curious thing was that when I actually went to burn a file to disc, all the templates suddenty appeared, and allowed me to Edit them as well if necessary.

The problem with this is, of course, that I was used enough to the program and with video editing more generally, to have a good idea of what I was doing and what I required by way of properties, both at the the intermediate and final burning stages -- so I did not have any problems. The same cannot necessarily be said of less experienced users. Yet this was a problem which, AFAIK, was never addressed by Ulead.

Your right again Ken,

I've never used the Make Movie Templates. I've been used to capturing my video, editing them, rendering and setting the properties manually. The only time that I use templates is when creating my DVD, or when I get lazy doing slideshows, I'll use a wizard.

So anyway I had went back and brought up the Make Movies Manager, and low and behold the only thing that it shows for me is the MPEG-4 plug-ins.

Sorry about the misinterpretation....

Thanks guys for clearing thart up.
Yes I was referring to the templates for CREATING (rendering) movies NOT the templates for creating menus and yes I was used to seeing movie templates displayed. So it appears to be a somewhat known 'thing' with v9.
I wonder if this also happens with v10 (does anyone know).

By the way Ron I searched BOTH CDs for contentpack_part1.exe and could NOT find any execuatble files which 'lloked' anything like this PLUS (NOTE THIS) -

when I attempt to install CD2 (click on DVD MENU on the menu displayed) the InstallScreen WIZARD starts up and displays the 'splash screen' (like it normally does) and then I get the following message displayed -

Installer cannot find Ulead VideoStudio 9 DVD Menu Bonus Pack on your machine. Please install Ulead VideoStudio 9 DVD Menu Bonus Pack first.

I am beginning to wonder if I have been 'dudded' as I bought VS9 on Ebay and wonder if it is a copy. What do you think or is this also a known problem and if so (regardless) how do I get around this problem and/or is there somewhere I can get the 'bonus pack'?

Thanks again for all your replies and assistance.

This only relates to the Make Movie Manager part of your question. I have the same situation in VS10+ as I had with VS9 -- only a couple of templates showing, plus a couple I have added myself. As I said earlier, though, other people, using exactly the same boxed version I had with VS9, had a full list of templates showing. It could be the same with VS10+ -- for some reason, they don't show on mine, yet they may for others.

JParnold,

That is odd that the content Pack 1 is not on any of the CDs.

However in my post above the "Click Here" is a hyperlink. It goes here:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 6501#56501

It will take you to a page on the forum that has links to all the Content Packs and the Bonus.

Thanks again everyone for your replies and input.

I downloaded CONTENT_PACK_1 and when I tried to run it nothing happened! Strangely I then found that when I selected DVD MENU (on the extras disk menu) it then run ok (no error like I got before).
Just for fun I then tried to run CONTENT_PACK_1 again and this time something happened (it displayed the extra files as they were installed).
I find all this VERY strange but then again some of the things I have read suggest that Ulead leave a lot to be desired with installations.

Lastly two more questions -

Is there documentation of what is installed for each of the CONTENT_PACK files? THey appear to contain movie templates (menu screens), some video clips and other things.

Also there is only ONE reference to 16:9 widescreen format (page 21 of the user manual) where you can click on a 'button' in the opening screen if you want widescreen format for your project BUT......

what do you do to use 16:9 widescreen if you have selected "do not show this screen" (and it is never displayed again when you start up VS?

Thanks again

JP,

I don't know of any documentatin listing what is in each of the content packs. However what you stated is generally what they install. Maybe Ulead shoud provide a "Readme" file listing everything in the Content Packs..

If you choose Not to Display.. Then just go to the Preferences File>Preferences (or press F6) and on the First Tab, check the box beside Show Startup Screen.
