Hi Bill, and welcome to the forums..:)

Please read the following post:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8964

Then also complete your system information in your profile. We need as much information as possible to help you. Right now I have no idea why your burner stops at 71%....

Thank You

When it starts to burn the disc in DVDPS, it will go 2 phrases. The 1st phrase is to convert all your project contents to a DVD folder in the hard disk, and the 2nd phrase is to burn the DVD folder to the disc in your burner.

If it fails in 71% (or before 75%), then it means there is something wrong with your source files in the project. Sometimes it's a MP3 audio file, sometimes it's a bad image (or video) file. Can you list the source files in the project?

If you do have some MP3 audio files in the project, convert them to WAV files with some converting tool and then use the WAV files to replace the MP3 audio files.

BTW, if you are using DVDPS 3 or earlier, check the update packs:

Hope this helps.

Shutting down @ 71%...

Post by Pleiades45 »

THanks for the quick replies and I apologize for not giving a broader scope of the problem.

I do enough tech troubleshooting at the school I work for to know better than to be so cursory in my explanation. THis project has taken me weeks of personal time and I just got into a "fit of frustration", making some rash assumptions. I've used VideoStudio9 with great success for some family weddings and had no reason to expect DPS4 would behave this way. Sorry...

Let me fill in my system settings in the profile and I'll have the answers from the Sticky posted in my next post...

Thanks for hanging in there with me...

DPS4 quits @ 71%...

Post by Pleiades45 »

Greetings gentlemen! Wanted to get back to you with more details on my problem. Thanks again for considering this issue..... :D

Nature of the Beast...er, PROBLEM:

I've made six seperate attempts to burn my "slide" project to DVD with no avail. Each time the Overall Project bar stops at (roughly) 61% and the Burning to Disc bar stops at 71%.

File Properties:

These are the completed file properties that open for this project -

One Text file folder @ 5.21GB
One Ulead CD/DVD PSProject folder @ 1.2MB
When I open the folder off of my external B/U drive (where I store my photo projects), the folders are listed as either a .DPS and/or .UPS file type. (Does that make sense??)

Devices involved (apart from what is currently listed in my profile):

I use a Plextor DVDR 716A burner with updated firmware (ver.1.09). I also use Verbatim DVD+R 16x media. Both have burned over 150 discs with recent VideoStudio9 projects.

Project Settings:

Under Preferances, I use Default Image size with Joliet file system checked...
TV system target is USA
SVCD Options set on Legacy (is that the default setting?...)
TitleSafe, Anti-flicker and Color settings boxes checked

Under BURN settings, I have Record to Disc, Create DVD folders and Disc Image File enabled.
Under Options I have Recording speed @ 16x. All Output Advance settings are checked. Under Advance Settings I have the Enable buffer underrun protection enabled; I DO NOT have Perform test writting enabled.

Output Format and PAL or NTSC:

Since I have USA selected under TV system, I am not given the chooice of PAL or NTSC. I don't recall what I use when I'm in VideoStudio9...

Error Codes

The only "negative" notice I've recieved is Failed to burn at the 71% point.

WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR...

I'm using version 4, so the LXDVDParser.dll solution didn't work for me. That file version is 1.12 and the file version on this copy in my machine is 1.18. I did try the download anyway but with no success.

I went to the FAQ section of the ULead site and went through everything they had - made sure my burner was compatable and downloaded the DPS4_Comm_Patch...went through the install, rebooted and no success. I wrote ULead for help but it has only been two days since I sent the SOS to them. I came to this forum and saw the disgruntled responses from others who have not gotten any responses from ULead on their software problems. (NOT GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS...) So I went searching for an answer even further...

I almost downloaded another program being used by some of the disgruntled DPS4 users - software by Photodex - but thought I'd exhaust my options here first since I've had SUCH SUCCESS with the video editing program I have from ULead. I know in computing troubleshooting that it's sometimes the most obvious of problems that get missed, only due to being unfamilier enough with the program. Although I purchased this program back in January, this is the first time I've needed to produce another "slide" presentation and I was looking forward to giving it a go. (Before this I've been using the program bundled with Nero Ultra 6 - it's a good program, if you don't have to tweak your music timelines though...)
SO...this brings me here....

I'l double check the music files I'm using and convert them to WAV as I'm sure they are MP3. (They were ripped in Windows Media Player 6 and the default I use in that program is MP3...)

Thanks once again for your patient responses. I look forward to your insights...

One thing you might try is to lower your burn speed. To burn a DVD try not to burn any faster then 4x. When you burn at Max speeds or high speeds, the discs tend not to get burned well, and you run the risk of the disc not being able to play in many, or any DVD players.

I know that doesn't help the rest of your problem, but I noticed your burn speed in your response..

Somethings to suggest:

1. Do as Ron said to lower the burning speed to 4X or lower, it would cure some disc compatibility problems.

2. Convert those MP3 files to WAV. Some Ulead programs will have compatibility issue with MP3 files that generated from Microsoft programs, but this issue has been fixed in most recent Ulead products.

I do not understand about your description on "One text file folder @5.21 GB". If you are burning a single layer DVD, you can only burn 4.3 GB onto the DVD. Check the project size in your DVD PS.

Since you are using USA TV setting, it's NTSC.

Hope this helps.

SUCCESS!!!

Post by Pleiades45 »

Well, THANKYOUTHANKYOU!
:D :P

I don't know WHICH feature made the change, but I (1) dug out a box of Ridata DVD+R 4x discs I got from a NewEgg order long ago, (2) converted the seven music files from MP3 to WAv with a converter in my Nero 6 Ultra program and (3) GOT A COMPLETED BURN! (Actually, I've gotten three,so far...)

I'm thinking that it may have been the MP3/WAV issue since I remember having a diffaculty when I first learned to use VideoStudio9. With that program, I could get a disc to burn but wouldn't get any sound. Further study led me to find that I needed to make the conversion. With that program I'm able to burn at 16x - however, I think the point is well made that they burn more accurately at the slower speeds. So I'm going to burn through my surplus!

I did a search in the Help section of this program and found no information on what type of sound files to use. I hope Ulead has someone monitoring these forums since this is just WRONG that they don't inform us users in an easier manner on how to use their product. As much as I like the end result, I'm really going to have to think twice before I consider another Ulead product.

I want to personally thank the both of you for your time and interest in helping me out. I hope that I can return the favor - if not to either of you, then to some other lost user who's run into a similar corner as I have.

Take care

Oh..the File-type question is perplexing to me as well. When I go to choose the file I'm working on, it gives me two folders and the one entitled "Text" contains 2,393 .UPT folders, each with a hexadecimal-type file name. Perhaps the other folder - the 1.2MB Ulead folder - is the only one that I'm working with and the other is....well, I really don't know. But there it is 2.27GB_UPT file-type on the burnt disc...

The MP3/WAV issue will happen with some Ulead products such as VS9 / DVDPS / DVD MF 3 and 3.5 but is been fixed in VS 10 / DVDMF 5. For those Ulead products that have the issue, you can contact Ulead Tech Support to see if thre is any update to fix the issue.

That's fine, I think. Just mind the project size bar in DVDPS and do not let it over the disc size.
