For VS10, the system requirements are listed as:
® Pentium® 4, Intel® Pentium® M, Intel® Pentium® D, or Intel® Pentium® 4 Extreme Edition processors or AMD Athlon™ 64 or higher recommended
As my signature should show, I'm using AMD Athlon XP2000+ with 512MB ram. Just looking for confirmation my system will not run VS10.
I'll be using it to capture video from Sony DCR-TRV22, edit captured video, and then burn DVDs of the captured video. If VS10 will work with DC10+ card, I may use to capture analog video too.
confirm system requirements

Hi Med, and welcome to the forums..
If you'll look at my system specs, you will see that I'm running a system less then what the specs are, and I have no problem running VS10+. The high end specs are slated for HDV editing. If you don't plan on editing High Def video then you'll be fine.
I would recommend bumping up your memory to 1gig. While you can run VS with 512mb, I think you would have much more ease in editing with the extra 512. Generally this is to overcome the hog of OS that WinXP is.
It also helps to have at least 1 additional HDD. That way it takes the load of a single drive, where it can be reading from one and writing to the second. I noticed a difference when I added a second one.
I looked at your specs after posting..I see you do have 2HDDs...
As far as the DC10+ card, I think I'd stay away from that. If it is the one that I think it is, it is a Pinnicle card, and if I recall correctly, Ulead does not work well with it, if at all.
Does your camcorder have firewire? If so does it have Pass-through (AV-IN/OUT). If it does I recommend using that to capture your VHS, VCR video. The pass-through converts it to digital. I use my DCR-TRV120 for that all the time...

Thanks Ron.
No, I don't plan on doing any HD work any time soon.
I'm torn between installing trial version vs going ahead and purchasing full version. I qualify for upgrade pricing. I've read there can be problems when starting w/ trial version and then moving onto full version. If that is not really a problem, then I may go ahead and try the trial version.
The other factor pushing me towards VS10, as opposed to Pinnacle Studio or Vegas Movie Studio, is this forum. It is active and seems to have a lot of knowledgeable people who participate. I actually used Studio v7 and didn't have any problems. But with all I've read, I don't think I want to try v.10.5.

What your reading is those that are having problems. Not many people post about all the good things. The theme of this forum is a "help forum". So all those that do not experince difficulties don't post.
Software is software, there are problems with about any of them. I at one time was seriously thinking about jumping ship to Sony Vegas. It is also a great program. I did visit there forum and guess what I found? Problems just like any you see here.
While there are some "bugs" with the various programs, most of the time as long as you follow the recommendations made, you shouldn't have problems. Most of the time the issues deal with system configurations.
As far as VS10 vs VS10 Plus ( I think that's what you are calling 10.5) I wouldn't waste my time with VS10. It is basically VS9 or 8. Not many if any added to it. Just 1 overlay track, AC-3 not Dolby 5.1.. With VS10 Plus, you get 6 overlay video tracks, that alone will allow alot of creativity. Vegas Movie Studio only offers 4. If you are considering a higher-end like Vegas 6 then that's like comparing apples to oranges. MSP is more like Vegas 6.
Anyway the only way to know is to do the TBYB thing... Download it, give it a serious working over. Do things that may/should force it to crash, just so you will know the capabilities. If it doesn't perform like you think it should or would like, nothing lost. If you like it, and choose to buy it, then Uninstall the Trial version, and install a full version. Do Not, do the Unlock or Activate. While it works, later when a Patch or SP is issued, chances are they will not install. The SPs tend to see Activated/Unlocked versions still as Trials.

Hi Ron, for v10.5, I think he refers to Pinnacle Studio 10.5, not VideoStudio 10 Plus.
