DMF 5 has SpyWare ?

Post by andrew005 »

Hi all,
I installed Ulead DMF 5 and after running the program, it adds some keys to the registry and Spybot scanning saying the key(s) are grokloader. The keys and values are the followings:

Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Softwrap
Class Name: <NO CLASS>
Last Write Time: 2006/06/09 - 12:27

Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Softwrap\Adtracker________
Class Name: <NO CLASS>
Last Write Time: 2006/06/09 - 12:27

Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Softwrap\Adtracker________\ga_main
Class Name: <NO CLASS>
Last Write Time: 2006/06/09 - 12:27
Value 0
Name: cookie
Type: REG_SZ
Data: ULUS_GA5_GENERIC_NA-EN

I am sure the adding of these registry keys and values are associated with the running of the DMF 5 because I repeated the cycle of deleting those keys and values and then running the program several times without running other programs. Right after I run the program, those keys and values were added. Any one has this same problem? Does Spybot falsely identify the key and values as grokloader? Or, these are real spyware? If they are spyware, how malicious are they? What do I do to stop this adding of registry keys and values while still be able to use DMF 5?
Softwrap is a company? And, ga_main is a program? The keys look like the following in the Regedit veiw:

XXX-HKEY_CURRENT_USER
XXXX-Software
XXXXXX-Softwrap
XXXXXXX-Adtraker______
XXXXXXXX-ga_main

(when clicking on ga_main, on the right pane, there are the folllowing)
Name Type Data
(ab)(default) REG_SZ (value not set)
(ab)cookie REG_SZ ULUS_GA5_GENERIC_NA-EN

There is another place in the registry, similar to the above, as the following.
XXX-HKEY_USERS
XXXX-S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxxx(a long series of numbers, without the "class" ending)
XXXXXX-Software
XXXXXXXX-Softwrap
XXXXXXXXX-Adtraker______
XXXXXXXXXx-ga_main

(when clicking on ga_main, on the right pane, there are the folllowing)
Name Type Data
(ab)(default) REG_SZ (value not set)
(ab)cookie REG_SZ ULUS_GA5_GENERIC_NA-EN

I did a searching of my hard drive, no such a program called ga_main.exe! Please help me on this!

Thanks a lot!

Hi Andrew, and welcome to the forums..:)

Where did get your DMF5? I don't believe Ulead uses Softwrap.

Hi, vidoman,
I believe it's a version downloaded from some P2P networks!
If it's not clean, how do i clean it completely?

Thanks.

So since this came from a P2P network, I doubt you purchased it, and it is not a registered version. That leaves a TBYB version, and a Pirated version. TBYB versions come from Ulead, Pirated comes from, well P2P networks.

If this is the case then I'm sorry we can not be of any further assitance to you here. We do not support pirated software.

Hello andrew005

I totaly agree With Vidoman - what i will say is

1) Pirated software is not safe You dont know who and what these people have done to the program

2) in this case DMF5 is cheap tp buy

OK what you need to do is

1) Unistall the program
2) use reg editior backup your Reg - then delete anythinkg to do with Ulead DMF5

3) BUY THE DMF5 its so cheap SO BUY IT.

1. There is no spyware in DVDMF (or any other Ulead products) and it is been faulty recognized by the spybot.
2. Softwrap is a company to provide software protection technology, see http://www.softwrap.com for details.
3. No pirate discussion is welcomed, so I will lock this thread.
