My 2hr HDV project. After a 25hr encoding session imported into WS 2. No audio. Imported into MovieFactory 5 the audio plays.
Dolby DA, 48,000hz, 192 kbs.
My intro for first play video does have audio.
MPEG AL 2, 44,100hz, 16 bit, 192 kbs.
Should I just use MovieFactory. I was trying to use WS because I thought it might have more menu templates and features and then I would give the
16x9 work around a shot. I discovered the work around after I purchased
MF 5. I knew I should have asked Steve first, darn.
I would rather not have another 25 encoding session.
Thanks... Ian

Wow 25 hours!
We will have to start with the basics first. Please complete your system details on your profile page.
Then please let us know the source of the video files and how they arrived into your computer.
After the capture stage have you done any editing, if so which video editing program did you use and in what format have you then saved the edited video file (in the case of 'avi' which codec was used) include the usual stuff relating to bit rates, screen size, audio format and anything else you can find to describe the video.

I'll just use MF 5. But I am having problems with the menu templates. I only have one listed in SmartScene. In MF 4se, which I just found in MSP 8, they do show up. How do I get them over to MF 5.
Video captured off of a Sony HDV Z1. Edited in MSP 8. Output as a compliant Mpeg file
720 x 480 16x9
cbr 6000
Dolby DA
48,000hz
192kbs
Since the audio plays in MF 5 fine. I thought I would use that if I could only find the other menu templates.
Steve.... your working late.

I would suggest you down-convert in the camera to DV, do all your "capture" and editing in DV type 1. With your rig, you could then encode to DVD-compliant MPEG-2 in ~real time (ie ~ 2hr). The end quality would be about the same and you would not have any audio problems as the encoder would not need to convert down from HD to SD, which is asking a helluva lot from software (which is why it takes so long). OK, you are not working in HD, but your output DVD isn't HD, either.
When (if?) a HD DVD spec gets carved into solid granite then you can take full advantage of the HD features of your cam. Keep your HD tapes, so that you can redo them in all their brilliance, if you wish. In the meanwhile, a more pragmatic approach would seem to make sense, at least to me.
