SmartSound slows or locks VS9

Post by steve_ss »

I like the ease of adding music with SmartSound, but as I add more music previews and other functions like saving slows down to a matter of 5 minutes or more, or locks up completly. VS9 work well and fast until I add the SmartSound.

without knowing all the details of your project it is possible the program will work slower as it has more work to do.

By saving do you mean saving the project file - this is simply a list of instructions and so there should be no noticeable change in speed.
If you mean save the video (as a new edited video) then yes it will slow down. Check the Options button when you save the video to see if smart render is enabled.

Smart render means that only things that have been changed
edits, transitions, titles, sound effects etc, get rendered.
Unchanged bits are copied as is and so are copied faster.

I have it in instant playback mode so I guesss I am just saving the project file. Saving is only one of the things that goes slowly. Only individual clips play normaly. Anything in project mode takes forever (5 mins plus). Changing the preview sceen to full size or about anything except dealing with an individual clip, video or audio is a problem.

Try the simple but often overlooked things.
Defrag hard drive(s) clear out temporary folders.
Close unnecessary programs.

Create the following in a text file and save it as unloaddll.reg then double click it.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"AlwaysUnloadDLL"=dword:00000001

I have done all you have suggested to no noticeble improvement. I am not a computer person by any means, but it seems to me there is something very specific to my use of SmartSound files causing my problem as I have none of the problems without them.

Thanks Steve,
I hace seen that thread before and it seems like a good idea, but complicated (for me). Hopefully following your throughstep by step instructions, I can do it.
So I am getting the distinct impression you don't you don't believe there is any connection between SmartSound and my problem?

You have a fast computer, plenty of RAM and plenty of Hard Drive Space.
I haven't read on the forum anyone experiencing problems with the program slowing down as a result of inserting smartsound.

You have installed the fix from the smartsound website so you have the latest version.

Based upon those findings I am more inclined to suspect something else is slowing down the computer, possibly another running program or running process. Failing that - fragmented Hard Drive(s).

The other suggestion I made was the dll fix. Sometimes when you run a program then close it bits get stuck in memory. Sort of like when you uninstall a program and still find bits of it lying around.

If you still think it's a smartsound problem then the Ulead Tech Support Guys would ask you to uninstall-reinstall.

If you wish to persue that as your next move the procedure is here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773

One last thought - how many different videos have you had this problem with - it may be a faulty video file.
Could you let us know the source of the file and how you got it into the computer. What are the settings of the file and format.
I hope you are not going to say
Xvid
DivX
MPEG4

I have had the same problem. The longer a SmartSound track is, or the more SmartSound tracks you have in a project, the slower the playback is and, yes, sometimes it hangs. What I have done to remedy this is I determine exactly what SmartSound track I want to use, complete with the exact time, etc. I then convert that into a .wav file (Share>Create Sound File). I then insert that .wav in place of the SmartSound. Works like a charm. 8)

Hi Jeff,
I ran across that suggestion a while ago (probably a previous post of yours). I wanted to try it but couldn't figure out how. Could you give me a little more detail on how to convert the SmartSound file into a wave file.
Thanks

Make sure you are done all of your video editing (because if you shorten or lengthen your video then your music will not fit). Add the SmartSound track you want. Once you have it exactly as you want it make note of its exact length. Now start a new project and insert the SmartSound track that you want and change its length to what you need in your project. Click on Share>Create Sound File. You now will have a .wav file of your SmartSound track. Open your project and put in your new .wav file.
