How to do rolling credits with video in vs10

Post by Toppler »

Hi i am finising up my work video and we want to do bloopers and rolling credits. I am not sure how to do this because when i do family movies obviously there are no credits :) but i want to do interesting credit rolling at then end on like maybe the right side of the screen and then show the bloopers on the left side of the screen like they do in the movies, any ideas how to do that?

Also is there a way to do a counter on the screen like they do on the home shopping network to show the length or more so how many items they have sold? were doing a marketing movie heh

Thank you for your help

I have used Ulead Cool 3D Production Studio and gotten great results on rolling credits. The downside is $$$$$ but well worth the investment
Thanks

Toppler -- I assume you have seen http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 8766#68766 on the question of rolling credits, posted in parallel with your own thread.

Ken -- it may be an Americanism, but I thought 'blooper' had become more universal than that. Here in Australia, it is understood to be an 'in your face' error, or something which has not gone to plan, usually making the person(s) doing it look silly. And it is usually part of a film sequence. A common blooper is for an actor to flub his or her lines, saying something wrong or just plain silly. Or for, say, a pie to be thrown but accidentally it hits the wrong person. That sort of thing. We are even regularly plagued on TV by programs titled along the lines of 'World's Greatest Bloopers'.

Riverhoop -- I am intrigued by your mention of rolling credits being done in Cool 3D Production Studio. I'd be interested in your work flow, and particularly how you would include a lot of scrolling text yet produce it in any sort of reasonable time. I have Production Studio, and regularly use it for single, two or three line titles, and of course I use the animations (including roll from top to bottom or side to side). I am more than happy with the results, but the one thing I hate about the program is the ridiculously long time it takes to actually produce the final AVI. It often takes an hour or more for the program to produce a 10 second title, when a normal render of a full video project in VS will only take 1.25 or 1.5 times real time.

Well as they say think before you talk...I went back to look at the video I used the rolling text in and I guess i was wrong, Its not rolling , its more like the beginning of Star Wars and the bottom to top moving text. i used text motion in text effects and the last one on the list to get the effect and then i tweaked it a bit with color and texture,,,sorry
Thanks

Cool 3D is great for Opening titles but no really suitable for the end credits which tend to be quite long.

In addition to the suggestions already given there is a tutorial here for a stars wars style effect:

This "Star Wars" effect is rather easy in VS. Start a new project and insert a colored clip or video for the backgroud and create a title using the fly attribute from bottom to top without pauses. Render this clip. Insert the rendered clip into your main project and simply use the distort clip feature and position it so that it looks like it is going into the screen. Bring the top portions in and have a wider bottom. When you play it, it scrolls up and appears to be moving away from you - just like Star Wars - or SpaceBalls (my favorite).
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Quite surprised that you have not come across 'bloopers' before Kenneth - the situation here in the UK is exactly the same as Ken described for Australia - every TV channel seems to have at least one 'blooper' programme every week

1) Place the clip in a new project
2) Save as XYZ
2) Go to Share - Create Video File

This will render "XYZ" clip. Once the clip is rendered, place in your Library.

Open your original project & palce "XYZ" in the appropriate place in the timeline.

Ah! thanks Rich. So in Newbie terms, "Render" means create a Video file from the titling, music, images or whatever is in the timeline, turning into Mpeg (or whatever I choose) so I can then re-use in another project. I did this and then imported it into my Project. Perfect! Thanks All!
