DMF5 - stalls every time!!!

Post by richardtse »

:(
Just purchased DMF5, without the free trial first - on the basis that I've used a few Ulead's products before and they all worked well and user friendly. When I work on a project, everything goes well upto the page just before it asks you to choose which burner to use, then when you press the 'Next' button to access this, the whole program stalls. The burners work well with other programs and is viewerable from the Ulead programs. Anyone had similar problems? as support from these people are rather slow - despite registering the product in the hope of gaining prioty support

Sometimes, your other burning software can conflict with Ulead. This is expecially true with "drag & drop" packet writing software. For me, the solution was to remove Roxio completely from my system.

Another simple solution is to "burn" the DVD to your hard disk, and then use your other burning software to burn the real DVD - Check the box that says Create DVD Folder, and unchack the box that says Create Disc. ... If you can get to the screen with those options. :?

There may be better solutions...

How many burning softwares do you install in the system?

And, what's the burner model?

If you remove the disc from the burner, will it go to the Burn page in DVDMF 5?

Best regards,

Hi,
I have Plextor's 708A and 755SA models. I tried remoing all other burner s/w and reinstalling all the DMF5 bits and Ulead's PhotoImpact. However, your point is in removing the disc is interesting as it gets to the 'burn page' but then loading the disc becomes a problem, if I load a disc, the 'disc tray' remains as 'empty' and the whole DMF5 window stalls. I can still use my pc for other things, but not shut down DMF5.
Do you know what the turnaround cycle is for support response?

From the timeline if you click on the lower left icon and select "About" look at the version number of MF5.

Can you post the version number back to this thread?

Also, from the launcher screen can you select "Copy" and have the drives displayed without any lag or hang of MF5. That is the same as accessing the drives.

What other burning programs have used and burnt to this drive correctly before? Are you sure the dvd's are compatible with your burners and you have used the same dvd's in the burner with success?

Sorry to ask so many questions....most likely tech support will ask you the same questions also.

Hi MD,

DMF5 version 5.0.0189.0

Copy is OK, I an access the drives i.e. both drives show in the source and destination.

I've used Plextools Pro 2.32a to burn a Verbatim DVD+R DL as per normal. With the discs loaded when DMF5 is launched, I also tried TDK DVD+R DL and it still hangs.

Here are my system details: P4 2.4GHz 533 bus; 1 GB DDR 333 RAM; W2K SP4; VGA Geforce MX440 64MB; disc 0- boot (40GB), disc 1- data (80GB), disc 2- Music and Media (200GB); PX 708A; PX 755SA;

write S/W: Nero 6, Plextools, Pinnacle 8 (uninstalled), DMF2 (uninstalled)
I also had some DVD copying s/w which were all uninstalled before I reinstalled DMF5.

cheers!

That serial number is the same as TBYB download.

I know that after you make the menus etc then clicking on the "Next" button that MF5 starts the calculation process.
Maybe leaving the dvd drives empty without any dvd's (you probably tried).
Or, make sure the working folder under "Preferences" is pointing to a drive that has at least twice the project size. Your 40gig boot drive may be to small for the temp space required.
I guess you've tried about everything. Maybe just a small project file to test.

There is a program that comes with MF5 called "QuickDrop". If it's running there will be an icon on the bottom right of the screen. Right-Click on it and select close.
Maybe the program isn't having trouble with your dvd's. It's having trouble with the source material & menus & calculating the project sizes & free Harddisk space.
I just disconnected my drives. Then loaded in a 4gig file. Went through the menu and clicked on "Next".
The burning module is displayed and where "Drive:" is displayed says "No Device". So it's not hanging and I can still create dvd folders or an iso file.

I may be mistaken but MF5 checks for the drives when you launch the MF5 program from the launcher screen. The launcher screen doesn't appear to detect the drives.

If you right-click on the drives from explorer & select properties under the properties tabs there may extra tabs of programs possibly having a conflict.
Your using Win2K so to disable the dvd I think you have to reboot. In XP you can disable/enable on the fly for troubleshooting.

If you can re-download the program as a backup. Some users have had bad downloads & corrupted installations.

Hope this helps,

MD

If you have Ulead Quick-Drop up and running when you use DVDMF 5, I would suggest you to turn if off by right clicking on its icon in the system tray and select Close.

After turning off Ulead Quick-Drop, and check if the problem is been solved.

Hope this helps.

tried before and still no good. QD recognises the drives without hesitation and the DMF5 just stalls in the same manner. I even tried turning off all AV, FW and Spyware running in the background; the launcher and DMF5 launches quicjer, but again stalls. Would like to hear from any DMF5 users running a W2K system to compare notes.

I've just been able to save the project to an image file on my HDD, though the DVD drives still show 'empty' even though a disc loaded in the tray. Despite this as a burning method, I did not purchase DMF5 to compromise my work methods. Just have to wait and see what support has to offer, when it happens.............

You may find you can get better support here.

Do you have Nero's "InCD" software installed? It will highjack your burner when it detects an empty CD/DVD in the drive.
