MPEG program stream is not compatible with this DVD Engine?

Post by wfmiller »

What in the world does this mean? Is there a way to fix or work around?

I am using DVD Movie Factory 2.x.
I imported files from another DVD that was burned for me,
a home movie full of clips/chapters.
I was able to import the clips fine, but when
I attempt to burn the files to DVD, I get this error message.
Can anyone help?

It means that Movie Factory is confused! :D
I imported files from another DVD that was burned for me,
If that's a "regular" video-DVD (that plays in a DVD player), then we know the format is DVD-compatible, but the MPEG is probably corrupted. :( The DVD could be damaged, or it could be getting corrupted during editing/processing. (A corrupt file can sometimes play OK).

Are you trying to make a direct copy of the DVD, or are you editing it? You should be able to copy the DVD without "importing" it. But, I don't know if MF2 can do that.

If you are editing the video (cutting, splicing, transitions), the editing process could be corrupting the MPEG. You can try making an un-edited version to prove that one way or the other. If it turns-out that the editing is causing the problem, I can recommend a special-purpose MPEG editor.

You might download the free trial version of Movie Factory 5. It has a much improved DVD-import feature. And, it may just work better for you.

RE: MPEG program stream is not compatible with this DVD Engi

I can recommend a special-purpose MPEG editor.
That would be fantastic if you could share this resource with me. I did try to do a straight burn of this homemade DVD (from old home movie films of the early 80's) , just using the "Copy Disk". This failed miserably. It copied, but when we tried to play, it was playing all the chapters at one time, making quite a psychedelic display which made me want to have a seizure.

I really would like to just import all the files from this DVD and make a new shell chapter menu(s) on each MPEG. I checked the MPEG files individually and they all play fine except I just noticed the first one is jumpy, like happens when you view online video sometimes--showing frames of the stream, rather than the smooth flowing video. Maybe your resource is what I need to fix the corrupted MPEG.

In the meantime, my time is running out. :( I have to have a fix by end of this week or I am TOAST. So, I have taken your suggestion and downloaded the free trial for MovieFactory 5. I will also try to re do the import of the first MPEG video (there are approx 19 MPEG clips, about 3mins in length each) I would be so grateful for the resource information that you were speaking to fix the corrupted MPEGs.

Thank you SOOOO much for your help! You are AMAZING!

Hi,

I'm not sure which special purpose MPEG editor Doug is referring to. However one that I see alot of members mentioning is Womble http://www.womble.com

Here's what i ended up doing:

Hello.

I wound up fixing my problem by using MF5 to do a new import of the files , then compiled a new menu in MF2 because I couldn't save menus in MF5 trial version. Once I did this, I had to save the files to video files because I couldn't get the burn to complete..it would go through the rendering and stop at the same old error right at the moment to burn.

Then, once I saved the video files, then I was able to do a burn with MF5 to DVD. Finally got it to work.

I now have less hair as a result...but never mind that...I can always get rogaine...at least I got my DVD finished.

Thanks for trying to help. : )

i'm also having this problem. everything i've tried has ended with this dvd engine error.
now i'm trying to export the clips, and then i'll reimport the clips, and try to use the exported video instead of my original footage, and author the DVD from there, as seemed to work for wfmiller. If that doesn't work, then i dunno what to do.

I soooo should have known better than to spend actual real money on software from Ulead. -_-

i fixed the problem with the "not compatible with the dvd engine" error, and thought all was good.

mounted the image I'd created, tried to open it in powerdvd. black screen, 3 seconds of the audio for the first menu, and then it locks up.

tried it in Windows media player. It either locks up, or it works perfectly but has no sound. It varies depending on how ***-eyed I look at it.

Works perfectly in Media Player Classic.

I whip out Arcsoft Showbiz 2, and in half an hour I have a dvd that plays in everything. The menus aren't as nice, but when it's a nice menus vs. ACTUALLY WORKS argument, actually works always wins.

How do i get a refund for this, the cruddiest piece of software i've ever had the misfortune to purchase?
