VideoStudio8 Editing

In edit mode after loading clips and editing,when I go to file- click to open -the file box appears under the black video screen! there is then no way to save or close except by cltrl-alt del-which then leaves the black video screen in the centre of my monitor screen. This happens every time.
Can anyone help/advise?
