error in dvd workshop total bitrate is too high

Post by nikkio3000 »

hello, when i get to the burn project to disk menu, it gives me an error screen saying:

[ The Total Bitrate (Video+Audio+Subtitle) of the above title is too high.
Please change the disc template or reduce the number of audio tracks.]

the video files only have one track , and i dunno what bitrate to actualkly set it too or how to go about it it lists 9 files that need an adjustment, any help would be great . :D

Yeah, any of the supplied templates should be OK.

If you are feeding Workshop an MPEG file, you will need to go to the Video Edit window and check the box that says Convert to disc template. Otherwise, the MPEG won't get re-coded.

In general, you should NOT re-code your MPEGs, because MPEG is lossy, and you loose some quality each time you encode. (In some cases you don't have a choice.)

HIGHER BITRATE = HIGHER QUALITY. The DVD spec allows bitrates up to about 10,000kbps, But, some DVD players have trouble with "burned" discs above 8,000, so that's a better rule-of-thumb maximum.

DigitalFAQ.com has a chart with the DVD specs.

And, here's a handy Bitrate Calculator.

And remember this is the combined audio + video bitrate. If you default to LPCM audio, count an extra 1500 kbit/s! Many commercial players have problems at 7000-7500 kbit/s combined bitrate and this depends also on the quality of the blanks, which are often eccentric, especially no-brands.

Anyone who tries burning at >~7000 kbit/s is taking a risk. Be it on his own head!
