Please help...I am at my wits end. Is anyone out there having a problem with MSP8 freezing and/or stop responding during editing video (Avi). The problem is most prevelant when I press Ctrl + z to undo a command. At other times the app. just stops responding. This is most annoying as I am constantly having to restart the app. and/or restart my computer.
I have version 8.10.0039.0.
My system's config is: Win XP Pro SP1, 2 GB of ram, 600+ GB hard drive storage, Pentium 4 with HT technology, and a 3.2 GHz processor. Thanks.

What format within AVI??? AVI by itself is no info.
Where have you put your VE temp files? Do you have enough space for them?

This is not a criticism but a simple statement; I have never understood why one would "capture" (or rather transfer) a DV file in one application and then edit in another. There can be no difference in quality. Why?
However, that is not your problem, apparently. Is it that you are trying to things when autosave is working? Try going into File|Preferences and unchecking it.

Re: Freezes
The latest Service pack for XP is SP2.J'rome wrote:My system's config is: Win XP Pro SP1, 2 GB of ram, 600+ GB hard drive storage, Pentium 4 with HT technology, and a 3.2 GHz processor. Thanks.
Re: Freezes
Updating may cause more problems than it helps for video. Most of my video work is done on XP with no SP. I have SP2 on my other computers.sjj1805 wrote:The latest Service pack for XP is SP2.J'rome wrote:My system's config is: Win XP Pro SP1, 2 GB of ram, 600+ GB hard drive storage, Pentium 4 with HT technology, and a 3.2 GHz processor. Not that it matters in this case (VS9 vs MSP8). But there can be good reasons to capture/transfer in another app -- like potential differences in performance depending on the machine specs, or other options that might not exist in one app vs. the next...Devil wrote:This is not a criticism but a simple statement; I have never understood why one would "capture" (or rather transfer) a DV file in one application and then edit in another. To J'rome:
Just to make sure -- are there any numbers after the HDR-FX
Are you recording DV, or is it possible you are recording HDV and using the camcorder to down-convert to DV
Check your preferences to see:
-levels of undos (I use about 5)
-how often to save (I use about 60 minutes -- and I often save manually)
-number of backups (I use 5)
Of course you can change those numbers to suit your style...

George

Does it matter WHERE the VE temp files reside, as long as there is plentty of space?????? I have temps on "c" drive (for no apparent reason
) and all other msp files on an external drive.
thanks,

I have found Ulead's capture routines to be highly intolerant of other activity in the system, and their applications also insist on running full-screen while doing captures or rendering. I cannot overemphasize just how lame that sort of thinking is.Devil wrote:This is not a criticism but a simple statement; I have never understood why one would "capture" (or rather transfer) a DV file in one application and then edit in another. That's why I use WinDV to capture most video I use with either VideoStudio or MediaStudio. The only time I use MediaStudio's capture module is when doing batch captures with QuickScan. Other than that, I find WinDV to be far more robust and unobtrusive.
No, of course it doesn't matter where the TEMP files are, but I wanted to make sure that the OP was aware that they default to C: and require a helluva lot of space. Many persons (myself included) use the C: partition just for the OS and drivers, so I've limited it to 10 Gb, of which about 1/3 is free. 3 Gb is largely insufficient for the temp files, given an average size project.rs02931 wrote:Does it matter WHERE the VE temp files reside, as long as there is plentty of space?????? For some reason, when I plugged my DV camera into my editing machine (I usually capture on a different machine) instead of asking what I wanted to do with the film, it just loaded Windows Movie Maker.
My observations (based on one set of captures) are that a) "Split by Scene" on DV footage needs a scan through the footage before you get the splits. MSP-captured footage shows the splits without a scan; and b) WMM is more tolerant of "uninitialised" bits of DV tape (gaps in the timecode due to unrecorded tape).
