No audio after rendering in VS 9

Post by mktgpro »

I no longer have any audio on files after rendering. I haven't added any software or hardware. I thought the problem was a conflict with Quicktime Pro 7. However, I did a clean and thourough uninstall ofQuicktime, VideoStudio, and Smartsound and then reinstalled them. Audio works fine on captured files. Problem is only with the rendered files. I tried both MPEG2 and Windows media formats. HELP. I'm on a tight deadline with a project due tomorrow. I would hate to have to go back to Pinnacle Studio.

Use Pinnacle, if it works. You never know how long it's going to take to troubleshoot a problem. (In fact, I'm about to sign-off for the day.)

You might have accidently muted the audio, or adjusted the volume to zero. Maybe your source video has a weird format. Maybe your source video contains a weird audio format. Maybe your source video is corrupt, and the codec gets confused when it tries to transcode it. Maybe you're output format has an audio format that your system can't play-back.

Please tell us something about your file format, and how you captured it. What are you trying to do? I could assume you're trying to make a DVD, but I would be guessing. :? The Read This First... post at the top of the forum tells you what we need to know in order to help you.

Play whatever file you created in Windows Media Player, and see if the Equalizer display shows any movement -- if does, then the audio information is there, and you likely have a codec problem.

You may want to download Sherlock and see if there are problems with your codecs. This is not uncommon if you've ever installed one of those darned "codec packs" that everyone and his brother seems to put together.

Thanks for all your responses. The source file is .wmv. It was furnished to me on a CD by a production company. It works fine in Windows Media, but I need to edit it down from 4 to 2 minutes. I was trying to render it to MPEG2. Then I tried to save the edited file to WMV. Still no sound. I ran Sherlock and it did not show any audio codec issues. I also check all the audio settings and nothing is muted. I occasionally use Nero Wave editor and Blaze Audio Rip Edit Burn. Could there be a conflict with one of those programs?
