I have been using Videostudio since Version 6 without ant issues. I have upgrade to each new version except for VS9 as I did not see enough difference from VS8. Although the instructions in the Sticky Note are good I have never needed to worry about such detail as everything worked fine. Does VS10 now offer so much control and conversions that they are now an issue. I have tried to create a DVD with previous files that worked and also capture new footage with exactly the same results. The files creation is fine but I get the same error what ready to burn.
Any ideas?

If it can't convert the file, the file is probably corrupted. A corrupt file can sometimes play-back OK. My hypothesis is that a small bit of bad data can be sent to your video card unnoticed, but it can really foul-up an encoder.
It sounds like you are encoding your MPEG twice, which should be avoided to preserve video quality (and to save time), but that alone should not cause Video Studio to crash or lock-up.
If you captured directly to MPEG-2, there may have been a glitch during capture that resulted in a corrupt MPEG file.
If you edited the file after converting it to MPEG, you may have corrupted it. (Some people get-away with editing MPEGs. When I tried it, I often ended-up with corrupt files.)
In general, you should convert the file to MPEG as the last step before burning.

It also sounds strange that you have captured from a mini DV but using as a field order 'Frame Based' instead of the usual 'Lower Field First/Field Order A' -- though IIRC correctly, Frame Based is set as the (unusual) default. It could then be that in trying to burn the disc, the template used includes Lower Field First, and thus the conversion begins. So if you decide to go on capturing direct to mpeg, then try changing the capture settings to Lower Field First, and make sure this applies also in your eventual burning properties.
But like Doug, I would suggest you would possibly be better off capturing first in DV/AVI format, doing your editing in that, then producing a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 by going to Share > Create Video File > DVD (NOT mpeg-2). Then, once you have this new file, open a new project, and go straight to Share > Create Disc > DVD and insert the new file. Make sure the box 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is checked in the little cogwheel icon in the bottom left of the burning screen.

Problem creating DVD's
Greetings to all from Naples Italy.
I'm new of the forum so, please excuse me in advance if I'll place questions already made in the past by someone other.
The question is very simple. Few days ago I bought a firewire card to start the experience of video editing. Inside the box I found the Ulead
VideoStudio 7 SE Basic CD.
I captured without problems a video as "DV type" from my DV Cam (Sony) and then edited it completely.
At the end I saved the project and rendered it with the same current project settings.
At this point I found the problem: I didn't find under the "Share" menu the "create disc" sub-menu and under "Export" menu the "Ulead DVD-VR Wizard" sub menu as well.
What is happened.
For sure I made a big error in the actions sequence.
Any kind of help is appreciated excluding ....bad words...
Thanks in advance.

I forgot to underline that the Ulead SW version is 7.0 SE Basic.
May be that "basic" means that the number of executable options are reduced respect to the "normal" version.
What is your opinion?
Thanks again!

Hi Cyrus, and welcome to the forums..
The SE versions are as you stated basic or Simple Editions that do not have all the features of a full version. You might also be aware that VideoStudio 7 (full version) is a Phased Out version. The current version is VS10 and VS10+. You might want to go to Ulead's website and download the Trial version and give it a try...
